Kanye West (also known as Ye) was well aware of Adidas's plan to produce Steel Grey 350 V2 shoes with his design. This sparked a heated debate between his former business partner Adidas and the rapper on Instagram on February 26th.
Rapper Kanye West parted ways with Adidas
"Anyone who loves Ye will not buy these fake Yeezys. I never created these colorways for this shoe. I haven't been paid royalties from them and Adidas is suing me," Kanye West wrote in a lengthy caption under a screenshot of the shoes.
Shortly afterward, Kanye West posted a video on Instagram explaining his "feud" with Adidas and claiming the company was suing him for trying to sell the Yeezy line.
"Not only did they release unapproved color combinations, they sued me for $250 million and didn't pay me any royalties for producing shoes bearing my name," Kanye West declared.
Previously, Adidas announced it would sell its remaining Yeezy inventory after parting ways with the rapper in 2022 due to his hateful and anti-Semitic remarks. Since ending the partnership, Adidas has stated that it has donated some of the proceeds from the sales to organizations "fighting discrimination and hate, including racism and antisemitism."
Kanye West once collaborated with Adidas to produce sneakers.
As of the afternoon of February 26th, there was no evidence to suggest that Adidas had filed a lawsuit against Kanye West. Adidas revealed that it had previously sued Kanye West's Yeezy LLC in December 2022, alleging that "West's racist and anti-Semitic statements and other publicly offensive actions violated the partnership agreement and caused significant damage to the brand."
By criticizing Adidas for continuing to sue, Kanye West may be referring to the aforementioned lawsuit. To date, the details of this case remain confidential.
As for Adidas, the company began selling Yeezy products again in May 2023 after severing ties with the rap star.
