Was Real Madrid treated unfairly, while Barcelona received preferential treatment?

Real Madrid criticized the referee's decisions after their dramatic 1-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao on the morning of April 21st.

Real Madrid TV claims there was foul play in the VAR technology regarding Endrick's offside position.

In La Liga's 32nd round, Real Madrid secured a dramatic victory, with Federico Valverde scoring a superb volley in the third minute of added time, keeping "Los Blancos" close to Barcelona in the La Liga title race. Significantly, Real wouldn't have struggled so much if the controversial refereeing decisions in their match against Bilbao had favored them.

The club's official television channel, Real Madrid TV, analyzed two incidents: Vinicius Jr.'s disallowed goal due to an offside infringement by Endrick, and Jude Bellingham's foul in the penalty area. Real Madrid's TV channel argued that Endrick's offside, determined by just a few centimeters from the tip of his boot, was questionable.

They questioned the accuracy of the selected frame in the semi-automatic offside system: “Where is the ball in this system? It doesn’t appear, everything is unclear, and they tell us to trust it. How can we trust Clos Gómez’s system and Mediapro’s production methods when we see similar problems every week? Trusting this VAR is impossible.”

Real Madrid TV called it a "disaster" in match officiating, a "mockery of football fans, especially Real Madrid supporters." Real Madrid TV strongly criticized the CTA, headed by referee Medina Cantalejo, arguing that the referees in the league lacked the necessary competence but were still given the opportunity to officiate.

The channel even mentioned that no Spanish referees were invited by FIFA to participate in the Club World Cup, questioning their competence or integrity: "We don't know if they are incompetent or under suspicion, but this is a real disgrace."

Valverde scored the only goal for Real Madrid against Bilbao.

Regarding the Bellingham incident, Real Madrid TV asserted that the collision with Athletic Bilbao's Unai Núñez was clear enough for VAR to request a review from referee Martínez Munuera. They sarcastically remarked that referees seem to be working in a "new kind of football," rather than the sport the whole world plays.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti also mentioned this in the post-match press conference, arguing that similar situations are often called against Real Madrid.

"If Camavinga's foul a few rounds ago, when the ball was out of play, was considered a penalty, then why wasn't Bellingham's situation? Martínez Munuera cost Real Madrid the championship many years ago, and now he almost repeated it," Real Madrid TV fumed.

Notably, Real Madrid TV even publicly replayed footage from Barcelona's victory over Celta Vigo on April 19th, a rare move. They suspected that the referees were biased in favor of Barca, helping them win against Celta Vigo despite the difficult circumstances.

Real Madrid TV pointed out that there were at least two instances where Barca benefited from the referee's decisions, including Raphinha not being sent off for his rough play on Iago Aspas, and the controversial penalty late in the match after Dani Olmo was fouled.

Valverde's spectacular goal secured 3 points for Real Madrid. In the early hours of April 21st, Valverde unleashed a superb volley in the third minute of added time, helping "Los Blancos" defeat Athletic Bilbao 1-0.
