This year's competition featured 22 teams from villages across the commune, each consisting of three fishermen using bamboo traps, competing on a prepared field. Immediately after the starting signal, the teams quickly fanned out across the field. The bamboo traps were continuously lowered with intense concentration. The competitors had to observe every small ripple on the water's surface, predict the fish's movement, and then decisively lower the trap, quickly reaching into the mud to secure the fish.
For many locals, the festival is not only a New Year's competition but also evokes memories of their working lives connected to the fields. According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, a resident of Mo Duc commune, organizing the festival helps preserve the traditions of their ancestors and is also an opportunity for children who have left their hometowns to return, reunite, and reminisce about old memories in the modern world.
The spring fishing competition, featuring the catching of fish with nets, not only creates a highlight in the series of activities celebrating the Party and the Spring Festival in the locality, but also contributes to preserving and promoting the traditional agricultural activities of the countryside. After the competition, the Organizing Committee weighs and compiles the total fish catch of each team to award prizes, and also honors the team that caught the largest fish, bringing complete joy to the people in the early days of the new year.
