Traditional markets and supermarkets are becoming increasingly popular.
At wholesale and traditional markets such as An Dong (An Dong ward), Binh Tay (Binh Tay ward), Ben Thanh (Ben Thanh ward), etc., buying and selling takes place continuously from morning to night. Stalls selling confectionery, dried goods, sausages, processed foods are always bustling. Traders weigh goods, advise customers, and constantly pack items. Many items for Tet feasts and gift-giving are attractively displayed, with clearly listed prices, giving consumers peace of mind. "In the past few days, purchasing power has been better than usual. Customers are more interested in fruit preserves and various dried goods, buying them for personal use or as gifts," shared Ms. NA, a trader at Ben Thanh market.
According to the Ben Thanh Market Management Board, purchasing power at the market has increased by about 10%-15% compared to normal days. Goods categories showing good sales include confectionery, Tet jams, dried goods, Tet decorations, and gifts... The buying and selling atmosphere is also vibrant at many other markets such as Hoa Hung (Hoa Hung ward), Tan Chanh Hiep (Trung My Tay ward)... "Although purchasing power hasn't surged as strongly as the peak period leading up to Tet, this is already a good time to sell goods. Usually, from after the 23rd day of the 12th lunar month, the number of customers increases noticeably," said Mr. T., a small trader at Hoa Hung market.
Alongside traditional markets, modern retail systems are also entering a bustling Tet season. At supermarkets like MM Mega Market, GO!, Bach Hoa Xanh, Co.opmart, AEON Mall, etc., shopping spaces are brightly decorated, with Tet-related product sections set up right at the entrance. Shoppers are taking advantage of the opportunity to choose Tet sweets, jams, dried foods, and household items early to proactively manage their spending and avoid the crowds in the days leading up to Tet.
Proactively manage supply and stabilize prices.
To meet the increased demand, major retailers have proactively prepared their inventory well in advance. With its modern distribution system, MM Mega Market Vietnam has developed a strategy for stocking Tet holiday goods to ensure an abundant and timely supply throughout its system.
During the peak period of the Lunar New Year, MM Mega Market Vietnam implemented a large-scale stockpiling plan, stocking approximately 30,000 tons of dry goods and non-food items, along with about 2,800 tons of fresh food, to ensure a stable supply. Simultaneously, the company placed special emphasis on food safety and hygiene, implementing strict controls throughout the supply chain, from import and storage to display and sale at its retail stores.
Similarly, Saigon Co.op has prepared essential goods and key Tet holiday items early. Saigon Co.op has proactively increased its Tet holiday stock by approximately 40%, focusing on essential items such as rice, sugar, cooking oil, pork, poultry, etc., while also proactively securing supply to maintain stable prices throughout the Tet holiday.
Mr. Phan Van Dung, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Livestock Industry Corporation (Vissan), said that to better serve the sharply increased consumer demand during the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Horse, Vissan has continuously improved and launched many new product lines. The products are diversified in terms of specifications and flavors, suitable for personal use and gifting during Tet; at the same time, all inputs and outputs are strictly monitored to ensure consumer safety.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy, Deputy Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Market Management Department, informed that the unit is intensifying its monitoring of prices and supply of essential goods; focusing inspections on key areas such as food safety and hygiene, combating counterfeit goods, and goods of unknown origin... In the past year, market management teams have temporarily seized more than 301,000 product units; 121 tons of various food products without invoices or documents; and imposed fines totaling over 3.7 billion VND.
