An unusual startup
In Brazil, people can watch the World Cup without any registration. This is the result of a project aimed at changing the way people enjoy football. The new trend in football is interactive online streaming, and the leading platform is CazeTV, a media channel that Portuguese star Ronaldo has invested heavily in. This system is currently broadcasting all the 2026 World Cup matches for free domestically. Besides the high-quality matches available on the platform and YouTube, CazeTV's unique selling point lies in its history.

Founded in 2022 by Casimiro, a 32-year-old streamer, after a few months of just regular streaming, Casimiro decided to bet on football streaming, partnering with LiveMode and attracting investment to create a unique ecosystem. They first streamed 22 matches at the 2022 World Cup, then matches in the Brazilian national league, the Paris Olympics, the 2025 Club World Championship, and now 104 matches at the 2026 World Cup.
CazeTV's fortunes changed when they acquired the broadcasting rights for La Liga until 2032, at which point they welcomed an investor who dramatically transformed their image: CR7. Immediately, CazeTV gained 26 million subscribers. Ronaldo's image even spread rapidly to Brazil, to the point where local media claimed CR7 would appear in Brazil as a businessman.
Gen Z is watching football in a very different way.
At the 2026 World Cup, CazeTV demonstrated its explosive success when the Brazil-Morocco match attracted 12 million connected devices, including mobile phones, computers, and televisions. This was a huge success, marking a leap forward for a streaming system, and according to Brazilian media, it was a world record for live viewership for a football match on YouTube. This shows that the younger generation, Gen Z, is watching football in a very different way compared to traditional television. They need to chat, comment, and interact with the world around them, in addition to just sitting on the sofa and watching a TV screen.

Returning to the World Cup, CazeTV prepared a 24/7 live broadcast program until the final match on July 19th in New York. This extensive schedule was built thanks to sponsorship from dozens of major brands. To attract even more viewers, CazeTV also invited many famous and influential Brazilian social media personalities. Thanks to their followings, CazeTV's subscriber count reached over 33 million in just a few days, and the company now has over 250 million monthly views.
Capitalizing on public demand, in the US, Amazon and Apple have spent billions of dollars acquiring broadcasting rights for many major football leagues globally (primarily through the Prime Video platform). These rights packages mainly target international markets such as the UK, Germany, Italy, France, the US, and Brazil…

Even last year, Amazon and the NBA announced an 11-year broadcasting rights deal, beginning with the 2025-2026 NBA season. In this landmark agreement, Amazon's Prime Video will broadcast exclusive global coverage of all 66 NBA regular season games, including the consecutive games on the opening week, a new Black Friday NBA game, and all games in the Emirates NBA Cup playoffs, including the semi-finals and finals of the season.
Beyond just competing in technology, leading global corporations are now exploring ways to attract younger customers, starting with offering them sports viewing opportunities. Amazon executives have even planned to acquire CazeTV to expand their business into Brazil.
