Sa Dec Flower Village is known as the place with four seasons of spring because it always has colorful ornamental flowers throughout the year.

At this time of year, visiting any ornamental flower garden in Sa Dec (Sa Dec City, Dong Thap Province) will undoubtedly leave people captivated by the breathtaking beauty of the scenery.

These are fields of chrysanthemums, roses, daisies, marigolds, and many colorful ornamental plants grown on trellises in the flower gardens. At the flower loading and unloading dock next to the Sa Dec River (in Tan Quy Dong Ward, Sa Dec City), there is always a bustling flow of vehicles transporting flowers and ornamental plants by river and road. The peak season starts from November of the lunar calendar until just before Tet (Lunar New Year), with vehicles and boats transporting flowers and ornamental plants from Sa Dec to all parts of the country.

Ms. Vo Thi Binh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Sa Dec City, said that the ornamental flower cultivation profession brings in a considerable income, so the Sa Dec flower village is expanding. To date, the total area for flower cultivation is over 950 hectares (an increase of more than 222 hectares compared to 2022), concentrated in Tan Quy Dong Ward (320 hectares) and Tan Khanh Dong Commune (324 hectares). The entire city has 4,000 households engaged in ornamental flower production, an increase of more than 1,000 households compared to 2022. Ornamental flowers are available year-round, so there are nearly 200 businesses in the area. It is estimated that the ornamental flower industry brings in a total value of over 3,200 billion VND for local people each year.

Besides producing and trading ornamental flowers, in the last 10 years, Dong Thap province has promoted the development of eco -agricultural tourism and intensified the promotion of Sa Dec flower village. As a result, in addition to the long-standing famous Tu Ton Rose Garden, Sa Dec city now has dozens of well-known tourist attractions such as Hung Thy Happyland, the Rose Field, etc.

Honoring traditional craft villages

To honor ornamental flower growers and promote the local image, Dong Thap province has decided to organize the Sa Dec Ornamental Flower Festival with the theme "Love of the Land - Love of Flowers" from December 30 to January 5, 2024, with many attractive events for visitors to Dong Thap.

Farmer Tran Thanh Hung, owner of the Frog Flower House Homestay, shared: "The Ornamental Flower Festival will help the people of Sa Dec flower village have a new mindset about traditional crafts, viewing them as local resources to change agricultural practices associated with the development of local community tourism . For many months now, those involved in tourism in Sa Dec flower village have been building new miniature landscapes to introduce Sa Dec to tourists from near and far."

Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc, Chairman of the Sa Dec City Ornamental Plants Association, shared: "Sa Dec farmers are eagerly awaiting the Festival and hope to introduce to domestic and foreign businesses the potential for developing ornamental plants, as well as tourism, to attract more large investors to the locality so that the craft village can expand further."

Mr. Huynh Minh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Sa Dec City, said that Dong Thap is a land with many valuable historical and cultural relics, along with unique culinary art… In particular, the Sa Dec flower village has distinctive characteristics unlike anywhere else, so the province organizes the Flower Festival to honor the flower village which is over 300 years old; at the same time, to promote the economic and cultural values ​​of flowers associated with tourism development and build the image of the locality.

According to Mr. Tuan, in order to prepare well for the Festival, the province has focused on investing in, renovating, and completing projects. Expanding Sa Dec City Square to 7.4 hectares with a total cost of over 140 billion VND and renovating Sa Dec Flower Park; urban beautification and tourist attractions; encouraging local households to participate in planting flowers and ornamental plants; investing in renovating and upgrading facilities, expanding reception and service spaces for visitors; renewing and improving the quality of products and services; implementing plans to ensure security and order, traffic safety, environmental hygiene, and food safety.

"Through the Sa Dec Flower Festival, we want to introduce to the people and tourists the image of the land of lotus flowers – a land of affection, dynamism, creativity, and traditional cultural values ​​– a safe and friendly destination," Mr. Tuan added.
