Both key players are entering the final months of their contracts, however recent negotiations have achieved a significant breakthrough. According to The Athletic , after lengthy discussions, Liverpool and the two stars have reached an agreement on contract terms and duration.
In December, Liverpool submitted their first offer to Van Dijk, but the salary and contract terms did not meet the Dutch defender's expectations. Throughout the second half of 2024, he repeatedly refused to comment on his future, especially after Arne Slot took over as manager from Jurgen Klopp.
However, after the defeat to Fulham in the 31st round of the Premier League on April 6th, Van Dijk unexpectedly confirmed that "progress had been made" in the negotiations. This is the clearest indication that he is ready to stay at Anfield.
As for Salah, the "Egyptian King" once worried Liverpool fans when he shared after the 3-2 win against Southampton in November: "The chances of me leaving are higher than staying." At the time, he expressed disappointment that Liverpool had not yet offered him a new contract.
It wasn't until early December that Liverpool made their first offer for the Egyptian star. Initially, there was a lot of skepticism, but now optimism has returned as both sides are closer to signing a new contract.
