OCOP products reach the market.

I met Ms. Pham Thi Hang, owner of the Diep Hang sesame cake production facility in Van Ha village, Duc Phong commune (Mo Duc district), while she was preparing products for Co.opmart Quang Ngai. Ms. Hang shared that in December 2024, her sweet and savory sesame cakes were recognized as 3-star OCOP products. Thanks to this, not only has her product been promoted and sold locally, but she has also introduced it to the markets of Ho Chi Minh City and the provinces of Binh Duong and Gia Lai.

Currently, her facility produces 100 bags of sesame cakes daily, equivalent to 50kg of product (sugar, sesame seeds, oil, and some spices). To ensure the product is fragrant and high-quality, she buys glutinous rice in August, when farmers have just harvested it. As for sesame seeds, she buys them in May-June, when the seeds are plump and fragrant, so she purchases a fairly large quantity, usually around 1.5 tons. Thanks to her meticulous production and processing, Ms. Hang's traditional sweet and savory sesame cakes are popular in the market, bringing in high revenue. Currently, Ms. Hang's production facility provides employment for 4 local workers.

Thanks to the efforts of traditional product manufacturers, local authorities in the province are also paying attention to creating favorable conditions for product consumption. For example, in Tu Nghia district, 21 traditional products have so far achieved OCOP 3-star standard. Most products have been registered for quality standards and have barcodes.

According to Doan Viet Van, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tu Nghia District, after traditional products were recognized as OCOP products, the district has facilitated businesses in signing contracts with distributors, retailers, and e-commerce platforms for product distribution. Simultaneously, the district has encouraged business owners to participate in trade fairs and promotional activities to advertise their products. As a result, some products have been exported abroad. For example, bowls, plates, and spoons made from areca palm sheaths are now available in the domestic market and have been exported to the United States and Singapore.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade, by the end of 2024, the province had 260 products recognized as OCOP products, mainly traditional products. Of these, 2 products had the potential to achieve 5-star status, 16 products achieved 4-star status, and 242 products achieved 3-star status. To help OCOP products and local traditional products reach a wider market, in addition to encouraging producers to continue improving quality and changing product designs and packaging, the department will continue to organize training courses on brand building and sales skills, and strengthen the selection of outstanding local traditional products. Furthermore, the department will proactively act as a liaison, providing lists of domestic and international traders and businesses to facilitate product distribution for producers in the province.
