Enhance care and protection.
These days, at livestock and poultry farms throughout the city, farmers are focusing their efforts on caring for, protecting, and preventing diseases in their animals, hoping to achieve high economic efficiency and facilitate sales to the market.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Thao, the owner of a pig farm in Mac Dong village, Ha Nam commune, is looking forward to selling his pigs at the end of the year. Currently, his family has 4 pens with 800 fattening pigs that are being regularly cared for and monitored according to safe farming practices.
To keep their valuable assets safe, Mr. Thao's family pays special attention to maintaining good daily hygiene in the livestock pens, always keeping them clean and regularly disinfecting them; and using nutritious feed.
According to Mr. Thao, the pigs are currently growing and developing well, and he expects to sell approximately 25 tons of live pigs to the consumer market for the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026 starting from December 10th of the lunar calendar.
Besides Mr. Thao's family, livestock farms in the city are also ready to supply food for Tet 2026. Mr. Vuong Trong Trieu, owner of a pig farm in An Khoai village, Thanh Mien commune, informed: During this Tet holiday, his family will supply the market with about 200 pigs, with an average weight of 120-130 kg/pig. To maintain the healthy growth and development of the pig herd, Mr. Trieu applies a biosecurity farming process; always keeps the barns well-ventilated and clean, and adds heating equipment on days when the temperature drops low.

Mr. Ngo Duc Son, owner of a chicken farm in Quy Duong village, Mao Dien commune, said: Currently, his family has more than 3,000 broiler chickens, and they expect to start selling them in early December of the lunar calendar, supplying the market with an average weight of 2.3 kg/chicken. His family is focusing on every step of care, disinfection, disease prevention, and strengthening measures to protect the flock from the cold.
According to the Sub-Department of Fisheries, Livestock and Veterinary Medicine (Department of Agriculture and Environment), as of now, Hai Phong city has a total pig population of 633,500, a total poultry population of 26.74 million (of which chickens account for approximately 19.53 million), and a total buffalo and cattle population of 30,047. The output of live meat for slaughter is approximately 266.86 thousand tons, and the estimated egg production is 950 million eggs.
Besides the large-scale farm-based livestock breeders, the city also has thousands of small-scale breeders raising 5-10 animals each. This is also one of the abundant sources of food supply for Tet 2026.
Abundant supply

According to forecasts, the demand for pork in Hai Phong city during the year-end holiday season is approximately 6,506 tons/month; poultry meat approximately 8,815 tons/month; and poultry eggs approximately 69.96 million eggs/month. Meanwhile, according to preliminary assessments by the Hai Phong Department of Agriculture and Environment, the city's pork production during this year's Tet holiday is estimated at approximately 9,152 tons/month; poultry meat production at approximately 12,691 tons/month; and egg production at approximately 79.13 million eggs/month.
Thus, during the Tet holiday, although people's demand for food increases, livestock products in Hai Phong will exceed the plan. Ms. Luong Thi Kiem, Deputy Director of the City's Department of Agriculture and Environment, stated: "Based on the current livestock and poultry population, the city's supply of pork, chicken, and poultry eggs is abundant, meeting the consumption needs of the city's residents. In addition, a portion will be supplied to other provinces and cities."
To ensure the safety of livestock and poultry and to guarantee a sufficient supply for consumers during the Tet holiday, the Hai Phong Department of Agriculture and Environment advises farmers to proactively reinforce their barns and ensure effective protection against the cold. Farmers should regularly keep their barns clean, and on cold days accompanied by rain, they should add more bedding material. For pigs, cleaning the barns should be limited to increase their resistance to the cold.

During periods of severe cold, it is necessary to proactively increase the amount of feed, provide warm water, and supplement with vitamins, digestive enzymes, and electrolytes to boost the poultry's immunity. Poultry should not be allowed to roam freely in the garden or grazing area; shelters should be provided to prevent drafts in the coop.
Farmers can use additional high-wattage light bulbs to heat the animal enclosures. At the same time, they should pay attention to providing a nutritious diet, supplementing with vitamins, digestive enzymes, etc.
