Mr. Nguyen Van Dac is currently the head of the Production Automation Department at the Electromechanical Enterprise, Vietnam-Russia Joint Venture (Vietsovpetro).

Tears welled up when the initiative succeeded.

Hundreds of workers at Vietsovpetro port are welding, assembling, and painting the final stages of the BK drilling rig's base, one of many international-scale deep-water drilling projects on the southern continental shelf of Vietnam.

Wearing his sweat-drenched, fiery-colored uniform, Nguyen Van Dac chuckled, boasting that to meet deadlines, he and his team had to work in shifts, rain or shine.

"Internationally strategic offshore projects must be constructed under special conditions, urgently and without delay," Dac said.

During a short break, Dac talked about how he used his time to research and find innovative ideas to streamline production and apply them to his work.

Originally from the Automation Engineering department of the University of Technology (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City), Nguyen Van Dac joined Vietsovpetro in 2006, working at the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Enterprise.

The workload was considerable, but the equipment was old and somewhat outdated, prompting Dac to ask: "How can I reduce the number of working days, minimize manual labor, and fix machine malfunctions while still achieving high economic efficiency?"

His passion for science since his student days spurred the young engineer to explore and innovate. His inventions were born one after another, among which the project "Using PVC-521B regulating valves with a rational control program to provide stable oil-fuel gas supply to low-pressure air compressors installed at MSP-9 and MSP-4 at the Bach Ho oil field" is the one he is most proud of.

Following the general policy of the Party and State to prioritize innovation and the development of science and technology, Vietsovpetro also has a resolution on promoting initiatives, inventions, technical improvements, and production rationalization in each stage. This has also fueled the passion and created opportunities for young, creative individuals to showcase their skills.

Based on his work experience, Dac said he set himself the task of "working on production during the day and researching materials at night," determined to create a masterpiece.

The result of many sleepless nights was the first initiative: "Upgrading the control system of the Ingersoll Rand air compressor, using a common inverter and PLC system to replace the specialized control system and inverter."

"The air compressor ran smoothly and flawlessly on the very first day of operation, and I was so happy I almost cried. The leaders praised it, colleagues congratulated me, and some people hugged me, which made me feel so happy and motivated me to continue researching other things, which also allowed me to unleash my creativity," Mr. Dac shared.

I am happy not because of praise or honor, but because I have the space to contribute and freely pursue my passion at this unit. That passion flows through me like blood and has never stopped.

The passion never fades.

Dac's phone contains many commemorative photos. These include a picture of him and his colleagues receiving third prize at the 17th National Technical Innovation Competition in Hanoi for their project "Modification of the control and load/angle reporting system for Demag cranes of the Vietnam-Russia Joint Venture (Vietsovpetro)".

For him, the award is a measure of dedication, but more importantly, it's about contributing to improving production quality and saving thousands of man-days of labor.

Evaluating these achievements, the Vietsovpetro Innovation and Invention Council noted that among hundreds of innovations, inventions, solutions, and scientific projects from many individuals and groups, the scientific projects of Master Nguyen Van Dac are of high quality, successfully applied to production, and bring significant value to Vietsovpetro.

Dac himself is considered by everyone to be a man of few words, many actions, and always uses creative effectiveness as a measure of success. He is also one of the exemplary figures in studying and following the ideology, ethics, and style of Ho Chi Minh at his unit.

Workers at Vietsovpetro are living in an atmosphere of competition to improve the quality of innovations and inventions, and to rationalize production in preparation for the Vietsovpetro Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term.

Among the many contributions of the more than 7,000 officers and employees of the unit searching for "black gold" for the nation, there is the young master's graduate Nguyen Van Dac, who quietly researches in his small room after each workday, aiming to create new topics and initiatives stemming from the demands of his daily work.

13 years as an outstanding grassroots worker.

In recognition of his hard work and silent dedication, Master's degree holder Nguyen Van Dac has been awarded the title of "Outstanding Emulation Soldier at the grassroots level" by the General Director of Vietsovpetro Joint Venture for the past 13 years.

He was also honored by the Central Youth Union as "Outstanding Young Worker Nationwide," received awards for outstanding performance at the ministerial level, commendations from the Minister of Industry and Trade for many years, and certificates recognizing his creative work...

Affirming intelligence and dedication.

Following his first initiative, coded "3151/VSP," Mr. Nguyen Van Dac continued to develop the initiative "Research and upgrading of the control and monitoring system for the vacuum impregnation and drying station." Among many successful initiatives and inventions that brought Vietsovpetro nearly 1 million USD in profit, the initiative "Modification of the control and load/angle reporting system for Demag cranes of the Vietnam-Russia Joint Venture (Vietsovpetro)" was evaluated as "affirming the intellectual quality, passion for science, and spirit of dedication."

This initiative won first prize at the 2023 (formerly) Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Technical Innovation Competition and third prize at the 17th National Technical Innovation Competition (2022-2023), awarded in 2024 in Hanoi by the Vietnam Technical Innovation Support Fund (Vifotec) in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, and the Central Youth Union.
