The Tra Bong and Western Quang Ngai Uprising on August 28, 1959, was the earliest armed uprising in Southern Vietnam, initiating the Đồng Khởi movement and unleashing the revolutionary tide in the South during the struggle against the US for national liberation. It has become a source of pride for the people of Quang Ngai and the entire nation. From the flame of this uprising, today, the Cor people in Tra Bong remain steadfastly loyal to the Party and President Ho Chi Minh.
Building upon that tradition, the Cor people in Tra Bong today continue to unite and strive to develop their economy and build a more prosperous homeland. Mr. Ho Ngoc Thai (Tra Bong commune) said that his family has achieved economic stability, raised their children to education, and helped each other escape poverty sustainably.
Overcoming difficult times, from a region with weak infrastructure and underdeveloped socio-economic conditions, Tra Bong today has burst with new vitality. The economy is growing steadily, culture and society are flourishing, rural infrastructure is being invested in comprehensively, and the lives of the Cor people are constantly improving. In particular, the Cor people today have boldly embraced new ideas and initiatives, developing hillside farming, cultivating cinnamon and medicinal plants, and combining it with livestock farming. With the support of the State, along with their hard work and determination to change, many families have accumulated wealth, and their lives are becoming increasingly prosperous.
Mr. Ho Van Bien, from Tra Bong commune, Quang Ngai province, shared that before 1975, people's lives were difficult, and their houses were still made of thatch, bamboo, and leaves. Later, thanks to the attention of the Party and the State, thatch houses were replaced with temporary and dilapidated houses, and poverty was alleviated. The people were very happy.
Building on its tradition of resilience, over the years, the Party Committee, government, and people of Tra Bong have united and strived to transform their homeland from a region facing many difficulties into a shining example of change in the mountainous region of Quang Ngai. During the 2020-2025 term, the local economy grew at an average rate of over 7% per year, with a total production value exceeding 1,100 billion VND. National poverty reduction programs and state support policies have been effectively implemented, resulting in a rapid reduction in the poverty rate each year. Alongside economic development, Tra Bong also preserves and promotes its cultural identity, combining it with its natural potential to develop community tourism . Culture and economy blend together, injecting new vitality into this land rich in revolutionary traditions.
According to Mr. Ho Kim Dung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tra Bong commune, Quang Ngai province, the current poverty rate in the commune is 10.25%, and the near-poverty rate is 11.35%. The commune aims to essentially eliminate poverty and achieve new rural standards by 2030.
In the homeland of Tra Bong, a land of revolutionary struggle of yesteryear, the Cor people today are writing a new chapter in history, a chapter of change and development. The flame of revolutionary struggle continues to burn brightly, becoming the driving force for Tra Bong to move forward steadily, building a prosperous and beautiful land.
