Amid speculation about the 33-year-old's future, President Teixeira told Radio Bandeirantes : "We are talking to Neymar's team. This is a step forward, we are making a lot of progress in the negotiations and are very close to a new agreement so that Neymar can stay for a while longer."

Neymar's future has been the subject of intense speculation after his father confirmed talks with clubs in the UEFA Champions League. It was previously reported that the Brazilian star wanted to return to Europe when his short-term contract with Santos ended.

President Teixeira also emphasized: "We hope this will happen as quickly as possible. However, we cannot rush. If Neymar does not renew, that does not mean he will not play in the next matches. That is not true. We do not need Neymar to play right now. I really hope for a favorable result."

According to Globo Esporte , Neymar has expressed his disappointment with the playing environment and management at Santos since rejoining the team in January. Currently, Santos is only above the "red light" group in the Brazilian National Championship thanks to the additional index. Neymar's continuous injuries have also increased the tension between him and the team's coaching staff.

Neymar's current contract with Santos will expire at the end of 2026. However, with signs of dissatisfaction, his ability to continue to stick with his hometown team is being questioned.
