In December 2025, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the first volume of the "Kaleidoscope" series, Kim Dong Publishing House revealed that it would be in discussions with author Nguyen Nhat Anh to create a comic book version of "Kaleidoscope."
Today, May 7th, Kim Dong Publishing House officially announced the organization of a contest to adapt the literary work "Kính vạn hoa" into a comic book, open to all Vietnamese citizens living, working, and studying in Vietnam and abroad.
Author Nguyen Nhat Anh and the artists and editors of Kim Dong Publishing House will judge this competition.
The winning author will have the opportunity to become the creator of the "Kaleidoscope" comic series, with Kim Dong Publishing House collaborating to develop and complete the work for publication.
Authors or groups of authors wishing to compete in adapting this famous long-running series can submit a comic strip of at least 10 pages adapted from an excerpt or any episode of the Kaleidoscope series; it is not necessary to submit an adaptation of the entire 54-episode series.
Each author/group of authors can submit an unlimited number of entries. The organizers will accept entries from now until October 31st. Kim Dong Publishing House stated that it will not accept entries that use AI-generated content or that use copyrighted images or characters.
The organizers plan to announce the results in December 2026 and will award first prize (worth 15 million VND), second prize (10 million VND), and third prize (7 million VND). Entries will be accepted from now until October 31st.
Therefore, if the contest is as successful as expected, readers will soon have the opportunity to read the Kaleidoscope comic book.
First published in 1995, "Kaleidoscope" was the first serialized series for school-aged children to be released regularly. The series consists of 54 volumes, has been reprinted numerous times (22 times), and has been adapted into television and film.
According to Kim Dong Publishing House, the "Kaleidoscope" series has special significance, bringing a breath of fresh air to Vietnamese children's literature during the đổi mới (renovation) period, providing interesting and beneficial spiritual nourishment, and helping young readers to love domestic literary works even more.
Characters like Quy Rom, little Hanh, and Tieu Long have become beloved companions to generations of readers for over 30 years.
