The Provincial Federation of Labor (LĐLĐ) currently directly manages 13 higher-level grassroots trade unions and over 1,300 grassroots trade unions with nearly 45,800 union members. Of these, the entire province has only about 70 full-time trade union officials, making the task of disseminating information, mobilizing support, and understanding the thoughts and aspirations of union members a significant challenge for the trade union organization. Recognizing the role of the press, the Provincial Federation of Labor has, over the years, strengthened cooperation with media outlets to jointly report on events, activities, and policies related to trade unions.
Accordingly, the Provincial Federation of Labor Unions has signed a cooperation agreement with the Provincial Newspaper and Radio and Television Station to implement the "Labor and Trade Union" column; two regular columns are published monthly in print and broadcast on television. In addition, the provincial press agencies regularly report on and reflect on activities and current events related to trade unions, union members, and workers. Furthermore, the Provincial Federation of Labor Unions also has a cooperation agreement with several central press agencies to enhance the effectiveness of disseminating information about trade union activities in the media. On average, each year, press agencies publish nearly 1,000 news articles, photos, etc., reflecting the activities of the Lang Son trade union.
Ms. Hoang Ngoc Thuy, Head of the Professional Affairs Department of the Provincial Labor Union, said: Thanks to the press and media, the propaganda activities of the provincial labor union are becoming more effective.
Through the dissemination of information via the press, the Party's guidelines, the State's policies and laws, as well as related rights, have reached a large number of union members and workers. This has helped them to promptly understand and proactively protect their own rights.
For example, based on the information published on the online newspaper of Lang Son Newspaper and Radio and Television Station on April 25th, "The Lang Son City Labor Union and DK Viet Nhat Electric Vehicle Company Limited signed a cooperation agreement on welfare for union members," many union members learned about this welfare program and registered, thereby enjoying the benefit of purchasing electric vehicles at preferential prices. In 2024 alone, 35 union members in Lang Son City benefited from this welfare program with a total value of over 250 million VND in preferential discounts. Ms. Hoang Thi Tuyen, a union member of the 8/3 Kindergarten Union in Lang Son City, said: "Thanks to reading the information in the newspaper, I learned about this program. Buying a vehicle at a preferential price has helped me save on some of my family's expenses."
In addition, reporters and journalists also contribute to building a bridge for dialogue between union members and businesses and trade unions. Ms. Vu Thi Nhan, a reporter in charge of the "Labor and Trade Union" section at the Television, Newspaper and Radio and Television Department of Lang Son, shared: "In carrying out this section, I focus on disseminating information about practical policies for union members such as social insurance, health insurance, and occupational safety... At the same time, I regularly participate in dialogues between trade union leaders and workers at businesses to reflect their thoughts and aspirations. These real-life stories are incorporated into articles and television reports, helping workers feel that their voices are heard and reflected to relevant authorities."
It can be affirmed that, over the years, the press has contributed to supporting the provincial trade union in achieving its goals of caring for and protecting union members and workers. From 2024 to the present, the entire province has admitted over 4,000 new members into the trade union organization; over 4,000 union members and workers have benefited from welfare programs with a total benefit amount of nearly 500 million VND.
In the coming period, as the trade union organization undergoes restructuring with the main goal of focusing on union members who are workers in enterprises, the press will continue to work alongside the trade union to strengthen propaganda with the aim of focusing on the grassroots level, promptly reflecting the thoughts, aspirations, and suggestions of union members and workers. At the same time, it will actively promote good models and innovative approaches in caring for and protecting workers in enterprises, thereby contributing to building the image of the trade union organization and its officials as true representatives of union members and workers…
