Sharing drops of blood

Voluntary blood donation is a beautiful, quiet, and noble act, further enhancing the tradition of solidarity and compassion of the nation. The voluntary blood donation movement in the province has spread strongly with participation from many social strata in the spirit of "every drop of blood given saves a life".

In response to the voluntary blood donation movement, the Provincial Red Cross Society, the Provincial Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, and the Hanoi Law University - Dak Lak Branch recently collaborated to organize the 2025 voluntary blood donation program with the theme "One drop of blood - a million hearts entering a new era".

From 6 a.m., after finishing his workout with a run of over 5 km, Mr. Le Vinh Long, 50 years old, from Buon Ma Thuot ward, arrived at the campus of Hanoi Law University - Dak Lak Province Branch to register for the Blood Donation Campaign.

After donating 350 ml of blood, Mr. Long shared: “This is my first time donating blood. I find this very meaningful. I've wanted to participate many times, but due to work, I haven't been able to. When I learned about this voluntary blood donation drive, I and some friends from the running club registered to participate. Sharing my blood to save patients feels so fulfilling because what I do might bring life to someone.”

Mr. Le Vinh Long participated in voluntary blood donation for the first time.

Mr. Doan Hai Cong, 35 years old, from Buon Ma Thuot ward, also came to donate blood after finishing his 12km run. “This is the third time I’ve donated blood in 2025. Each time I donate blood, I feel happy and joyful to be able to contribute a small part to help others. This is an extremely meaningful and practical act, helping me realize that life is about sharing and spreading love,” Mr. Cong shared.

Not only Mr. Long and Mr. Cong, but currently many people of all ages and professions are sharing the noble act of donating blood with the hope that "every drop of blood given saves a life."

Since the end of 2024, the "Drop of Compassion" Club of Hanoi Law University - Dak Lak Branch has been established by youth union members, students, and university students with the desire to promote the blood donation movement, and at the same time, gather information about blood donors in the province so that when patients need blood, especially rare blood types or live blood, they can receive it immediately.

To Viet Vinh, head of the "Drop of Compassion" Blood Donation Club, said: "Currently, the club has 11 core members and has mobilized nearly 170 people to participate in blood donation. This is the second time the club has organized a blood donation drive since its establishment. Whenever there is a blood donation drive, the Steering Committee will inform the members through the shared Zalo group so they can arrange their time to participate. This time, more than 600 youth union members, young people, and citizens participated, collecting more than 400 units of blood."

Young people and youth union members participate in voluntary blood donation.

During blood donation drives, members with rare blood types are always given priority. To Duy Kham (born in 1988), a lecturer and member of the "Drop of Compassion" Blood Donation Club, who has the rare A Rh- blood type, shared: "I've participated in blood donation drives many times, but mainly donate blood directly when hospitals need it to save lives. The most memorable blood donation was to save a pregnant woman. That surgery required 5 units of blood, and I, along with two other friends, promptly donated blood to successfully save her life… I am very happy that I contributed in some way to saving a life."

According to Nguyen Duc Phu, Chief of the Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, the province has organized more than 90 voluntary blood donation drives since the beginning of the year.

Specifically, the club of Hanoi Law University - Dak Lak Branch participated in this movement for the second time this year. After the province's merger, the Steering Committee hopes to spread this movement to many segments of the population in the province. In 2026, the province will continue to effectively organize major campaigns such as: "Red Sunday", "Spring Red Festival", "Summer Red Blood Campaign", "Red Journey"...

Simultaneously, we will intensify propaganda efforts regarding blood donation and organ donation through various diverse forms, contributing to raising awareness and knowledge among all segments of the population, especially people in remote areas, rural areas, and ethnic minority communities, about blood donation, safe blood transfusion, and organ and body part donation.
