Rap Viet 2024 has concluded with an overwhelming victory for Coach B Ray's team. True to his earlier audacious declaration, the rapper led both of his team's contestants to the champion and runner-up positions, a feat no other coach has achieved in previous seasons of Rap Viet.
For most viewers, Robber's victory was completely convincing. However, others expressed regret for GILL. In fact, the runner-up of Rap Vietnam 2024 had an impressive journey leading up to the final. But at the decisive moment, GILL performed a relatively weak song, putting him at a slight disadvantage in the competition against his own teammate.
Responding to this to Tri Thức - Znews , Coach B Ray said: “If someone thinks I’ve miscalculated GILL’s career path, they need to reconsider their own perspective.”
'GILL achieved many successes at Rap Viet'
In both seasons of Rap Viet, B Ray has had contestants who are considered strong contenders for the championship. Last year, it was 24k.Right - who won 4 golden hats in the opening round - and Huynh Cong Hieu - a judge in many underground rap competitions.
At the time, most viewers believed that the championship would be hard to escape the grasp of one of the two contestants from B Ray's team. However, things turned out unexpectedly. Double2T, a contestant from BigDaddy's team, was the one crowned the winner of Rap Viet Season 3.
Interestingly, Huynh Cong Hieu didn't even make it into the top 3. This surprised most viewers because, in terms of skill, he was in no way inferior to veteran names like Blacka from season 2 or Robber from this season.
In the final round, the leader of the "You've Got Talent " team delivered a cheerful performance, highlighted by lyrics with a healing message. Many viewers felt it was a song worth listening to again; however, in the context of the final round, it seemed to lack the necessary impact. Proof of this is that Huỳnh Công Hiếu did not win a high position that year.
A similar case is GDucky in Season 1. Before the Rap Viet Season 1 finale, most predictions pointed to a contestant from Karik's team winning the championship. GDucky made a strong impression in the previous three rounds, especially with his hit song " What's the Point of Having So Much Money?" in the Breakthrough round. However, his performance of "The Right Journey" in the final was considered somewhat weak. In the end, GDucky had to watch Dế Choắt take the crown.
At that time, coach Karik himself admitted to Tri Thức - Znews that he had miscalculated the direction for his student: "I cried because in the final moments, I chose the wrong theme for GDucky. I should have looked at the teams' abilities and chosen a different theme. I feel guilty."

Returning to GILL, the runner-up of Rap Viet 2024 actually underwent a transformation when entering the final round. No longer the flashy, flamboyant GILL with his "city boy" flexing lyrics, instead, the audience saw a simple, emotional Truong Giang, along with a storytelling style rarely seen from him.
However, intentionally avoiding making the song overly sentimental, GILL constructed a song structure with less emotional intensity. This arrangement is considered to have somewhat disadvantaged the rapper.
Unlike Karik many years ago, when faced with the question of whether he had misguided his student, B Ray immediately denied it. “Underdogs always trust each other. For this competition, GILL trusted me and vice versa. I think with what GILL achieved in this competition, if anyone thinks I misguided GILL, they should reconsider their perspective,” the coach shared.
"Many people know me for my introspective, storytelling music. I think if everyone in the finals raps gangsta rap or battle rap, they'll overlook other very important genres of hip-hop," he added.
'I came to Rap Viet to win'
Sharing his thoughts on Gill and Robber's achievements, B Ray said that what his students have accomplished is very meaningful to his career. "This will be a milestone I'll remember for the rest of my life. It's a matter of pride. And I'll be so proud that when my children and grandchildren have free time, I'll tell them about it," the rapper excitedly said.
Furthermore, B Ray also shared that he participated in Rap Viet with the spirit of "playing to win." He emphasized: "For me, this is a competition, and when I enter it, I always work my hardest. I want to win. Whether I actually win or not is yet to be seen, but that's the spirit."
During Rap Viet 2024, many viewers doubted the possibility of a collaboration between coach B Ray and Robber. Previously, the contestant from B Ray's team had been included in the top 50 outstanding Asian hip-hop artists by the prestigious hip-hop magazine LiFTED for two consecutive years. Furthermore, Robber is known as a strong-willed rapper from the underground scene.
Surprisingly, B Ray said that working with Robber was very easy, and he himself was surprised by that. “Robber kept his promise, which is that when you come here, you have to be receptive. I was also surprised at how well we worked together. Thank you for Robber's humility. That helped us get to where we are today,” he said.

When asked whether the 60% audience and 40% coach/judge voting system would determine the true champion, B Ray stated that his own opinion wasn't that important. He expressed: "Ultimately, when we enter a competition, what we need to do is respect its rules. Opinions about who deserves it more than whom are meaningless."
Finally, the male rapper also denied the information that this was his last season on Rap Viet. "I never said that. However, it's hard to say what the future holds. If there is a Rap Viet season 5, people can come back and ask this question, then we'll have a more accurate answer," the coach concluded.
