Following the 2026 World Cup draw, the Opta supercomputer released its prediction for the tournament's title contenders. According to Opta, Spain is the top favorite, with a 17% chance of winning. The reigning European champions are considered the most balanced team at the moment, possessing an excellent midfield and a high-quality attack in every match.

France is the second favorite to win the championship with a 14.1% chance. Kylian Mbappe has consistently shown high performance at the World Cup. This has led to expectations that the French team will continue to advance deep into the tournament, possibly even reaching the final, as they did in the 2018 World Cup (winning) and the 2022 World Cup (runners-up).
England are ranked third with an 11.8% chance of winning the title, thanks to a squad of promising young players and growing confidence in coach Thomas Tuchel. Opta believes the "Three Lions" may be ready to break their 60-year World Cup drought and claim their second world championship title in history.
Surprisingly, reigning World Cup champions Argentina are only ranked 4th with an 8.7% chance of winning the title. Although Lionel Messi remains central to La Albiceleste's playing style, he is now 38 years old. Therefore, his ability to shine is being questioned.
Germany comes next with 7.1%. They are considered a potential contender but have lacked consistency in recent years. Portugal is predicted to have a 6.6% chance of winning the world title in Cristiano Ronaldo's final World Cup.
Meanwhile, Brazil is only the 7th favorite with a 5.6% chance, despite being led by coach Carlo Ancelotti. They have declined in recent tournaments and are struggling to regain their golden era.

Next is the Netherlands with a rate of 5.2%. Meanwhile, Norway ranks 9th with 2.3%. This is the time when striker Haaland is at his peak and showing devastating form. Colombia ranks 10th with 2%.
Opta also noted an interesting detail. Accordingly, the chances of winning the championship for the teams that qualify through the intercontinental play-offs (which likely include Italy) are 3.7%, significantly higher than many of the top 15 teams.
