It's best to study during office hours.

According to many students, the first class of the day should start during office hours, not too early.

Nguyen Minh Tri, a student at Saigon University, suggests that classes should start during office hours, around 7-7:30 AM, and in the afternoon from 1:30 PM. Simply put, during these times, the human brain functions better, leading to higher learning efficiency for students and higher teaching effectiveness for lecturers.

"Starting classes at 6 a.m., or even 6:30 a.m., is too early. Given the difficulties in commuting due to traffic or the long distance from home, it would be very difficult for students," Minh Tri said.

Similarly, Nguyen Ngoc Duc, a student at Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport, commented: "I prefer starting morning classes around 7 or even 8 a.m. If there are enough classrooms available for registration, the time from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. is more than enough for students to study," Ngoc Duc said.

According to Master Pham Thai Son, Director of the Admissions Center at Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry, class schedules should be arranged according to the actual conditions of each school. However, the school also needs to consider the opinions of both students and instructors.

"If possible, the study schedule for students – those preparing to enter the workforce – should be similar to that of working professionals, so that they can align their biological rhythms with those of businesses," suggested Master Sơn.

Meanwhile, some readers sent comments to the Thanh Nien newspaper's editorial office supporting the idea of starting classes early stated: "Starting classes at 6 a.m. is very normal. Students should get used to an industrial work ethic because later, when they work in factories, they can be scheduled to work from 5-6 a.m. until evening."

'It's not advisable to wake up early, but it's possible to study until 9 PM?'

According to Associate Professor Dr. Do Van Dung, Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education,   SV   Classes should start at 7:00 AM. If there are earlier classes, they should only be for physical education .

However, according to Mr. Dung, regular classes could still last until 9 PM instead of ending at 5 PM as they do now.

Explaining this viewpoint, Mr. Dung argued that universities in Vietnam have not yet abandoned the outdated habit of ending work at 5 or 6 PM. Universities around the world now operate through the night to avoid traffic congestion, enjoy pleasant weather, and create a quiet atmosphere suitable for studying and scientific research. Daytime students can easily find part-time jobs... The efficiency of classroom use will increase, and there will be no need to invest in building too many classrooms.

A lecturer from a member university of the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City said: "In fact, many foreign universities start their classes every day from around 9 am to around 3 pm. This is the most suitable time for students and lecturers to comfortably prepare for teaching and learning. However, the current lack of facilities and teaching staff at our universities does not allow us to implement this."
