Should study during office hours
According to many students, the first class of the day should start during office hours and not too early.
Nguyen Minh Tri, a student at Saigon University, thinks that we should start studying during office hours around 7-7:30 in the morning and 1:30 in the afternoon. Simply put, during this time, the human brain will function better and the learning efficiency of students and teaching efficiency of lecturers will also be higher.
“Starting class at 6am, or even 6:30am, is too early. In difficult traffic conditions or when living far away, it will be difficult for students,” Minh Tri said.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology: Students start class at 6am?Similarly, Nguyen Ngoc Duc, a student at Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport, commented: “I like to start morning classes at around 7am, or even 8am. In a day, if there are enough classrooms to register, the time from 8am to 4pm is more than enough study time for students,” Ngoc Duc said.
Master Pham Thai Son, Director of the Admissions Center of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry, said that the arrangement of study hours depends on the actual conditions of each school. However, schools also need to pay attention to the opinions of students and teachers.
"If possible, the study hours of students - those who are preparing to go to work - should be the same as those of working people so that they can adapt to the biological rhythm of businesses," Master Son suggested.
Meanwhile, a reader sent a comment to the Thanh Nien Newspaper editorial office in support of starting school early, saying: "Studying at 6am is very normal. Students should get used to industrial working style because later when working in factories, they can start from 5-6am until evening."
'Shouldn't wake up early but can study until 9pm?'
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Do Van Dung, Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education, SV School should start at 7:00 a.m. If there is an earlier class, it should be for physical education only.
However, according to Mr. Dung, regular classes can still last until 9 p.m. instead of ending at 5 p.m. as at present.
Explaining this point of view, Mr. Dung said that universities in Vietnam have not yet removed the subsidy-era habit of the working day ending at 5-6 pm. Universities in the world today work through the night to avoid traffic jams, the weather is pleasant, the atmosphere is quiet, suitable for studying and scientific research. Students during the day can easily find part-time jobs... The efficiency of using classrooms will increase and there is no need to invest in building too many classrooms.
A lecturer at a member school of Ho Chi Minh City National University said: “In fact, many foreign universities start their classes every day from around 9am to around 3pm. This is the most suitable time for students and lecturers to comfortably prepare for teaching and learning. However, the current lack of facilities and teachers at these schools does not allow this to happen.”
