Spanish tennis player Jannik Sinner, world number four, helped Italy win the Davis Cup final quickly by defeating Australian opponent Alex de Minaur 6-3, 6-0 on the evening of November 26th.

Sinner completely dominated his opponent, winning the last eight games in a row, including four break-points. The 22-year-old talent entered the match confidently because his teammate Matteo Arnaldi had brilliantly defeated Alexei Popyrin 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 in the first singles match to give Italy the lead.

Australia were unable to force the final into a men's doubles match as Sinner continued his strong performance by not losing a single break point. For the second consecutive year, the Australian team lost in the Davis Cup final.

"We are incredibly happy with this victory," Sinner said after the Davis Cup awards ceremony. "From being just one point away from elimination, we have become champions. The whole team worked together to achieve this, and now it's time to enjoy it."

Italy nearly lost in the semi-finals if Sinner hadn't saved three consecutive match points in his second singles match against Novak Djokovic on November 25th. Sinner's nail-biting victory over Nole spurred Italy to a comeback against Serbia in the men's doubles match and secure a place in the final. Including his win against de Minaur, Sinner has won 20 out of 22 singles matches since the US Open.

Italy won their first Davis Cup title in 47 years, since 1976. "We made our dream come true. Arnaldi and Sinner were fantastic today," Lorenzo Musetti said after the match. The world number 27 appeared relaxed despite having to give up the first singles match to Arnaldi, ranked 44th in the ATP.

"We prioritize team spirit above all else," Sinner added. "The whole team appreciates members like Matteo Berrettini. He's had a very difficult year with multiple injuries, unable to play at his best, but he's still here to bring positive energy to the whole team."
