The Hanoi Department of Education and Training stated that it has requested the Cau Giay District Department of Education and Training to provide a detailed report regarding media reports about a first-grade student from Archimedes Academy Primary School being left behind in a car during a field trip returning from Gia Lam District (Hanoi).
A first-grade student from Archimedes Academy Elementary School was left behind in a car during a school field trip on June 22nd.
The Hanoi Department of Education and Training also assigned the Political , Ideological - Science and Technology Department to take the lead and coordinate with relevant departments to monitor and urge the district, county, and town education and training departments; schools under the department's direct management; and vocational education and continuing education centers to strictly and fully implement regulations on ensuring safety when organizing extracurricular educational activities for students.
According to a report from Archimedes Academy Primary School, on June 22nd, students participated in a field trip to Bat Trang (Gia Lam District) as planned and returned to school at 12:10 PM. The bus stopped for about 10 minutes to drop off the students, and the teacher negligently failed to take attendance upon disembarking, resulting in one student who was sleeping on the bus being overlooked.
At approximately 12:30 PM, the teachers noticed a student was missing, so they split up to search for him and contacted the driver. At 12:40 PM, the teachers received information from both the driver and the student's mother. The driver immediately brought the student back and arrived at the school at 12:45 PM. By then, the student's emotional state was stable.
The school administration met with the parents to apologize. The parents expressed their wish for their child to continue studying at the school and hoped the matter would end there so their child could regain emotional stability and focus on their studies.
On the school's side, the Chairman of the Board of Directors convened an emergency meeting of the school's management and relevant staff to learn from the experience and review the procedures. The school's management then reported the incident to the leaders of the Cau Giay District Department of Education and Training; established a disciplinary committee for the teacher who violated regulations; and held a meeting of all student management staff and teachers to strengthen control over student transportation activities.
Hanoi has experienced several incidents of students being left behind on school buses, as well as accidents and safety hazards during field trips and excursions, resulting in heartbreaking consequences.
