| Construction of Hoang Sa road in Thuan An |
Shortcomings
In recent years, along with the rapid urbanization and development of coastal tourism , the volume of vehicles and the demand for transportation in Thuan An have increased significantly. However, many infrastructure projects have not kept pace with actual demands, leading to numerous persistent problems.
Truong Thieu Street is one of the areas that frequently experiences traffic congestion during rush hour. The road is narrow but the traffic volume is quite high, and with schools along the route, there is a potential risk of traffic accidents.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa, a resident living near the area, said that during school dismissal time, the concentration of cars and motorbikes makes traffic very difficult. "Just one vehicle stopping illegally can cause a traffic jam along the entire stretch of road. Many parents are worried about their children having to travel amidst such heavy traffic," Mr. Hoa said.
According to feedback from residents, authorities need to study options for restricting car traffic during appropriate hours on this road, especially during school hours, to ensure traffic safety.
In addition, some inner-city roads, although completed many years ago, have not yet been connected to National Highway 49B, preventing the infrastructure from maximizing investment efficiency and causing inconvenience for residents' travel.
Notably, roads such as Nguyen Dang and Vo Truong Toan are still not seamlessly connected to National Highway 49A. Residents believe that the delay in connection not only affects traffic flow but also limits the potential for developing services, tourism, and urban beautification along the coastal area.
A resident living near Vo Truong Toan Street complained that although the road has been widened, the section connecting to National Highway 49A currently only has a small, obscured access lane with a patched surface, posing a potential traffic accident risk. Meanwhile, the area opposite leading to the B5 resettlement zone has been cleared, but construction continues, affecting residents' commutes.
Furthermore, many low-lying areas in the locality still pose a risk of flooding during the rainy season. Doan Truc Street is one example. Currently, this road is frequently flooded due to its low-lying terrain and inadequate drainage system, causing difficulties for daily life and traffic whenever there is heavy and prolonged rainfall.
Not only traffic, but the lighting system in the former Phu Thuan and Phu Hai areas has also not been invested in comprehensively. Many roads and alleys lack lighting at night, affecting travel and posing a potential risk to security and order.
Early and comprehensive investment
According to some residents, removing infrastructure bottlenecks in Thuan An will not only serve the needs of the people but also create conditions to promote the development of tourism, services, and urban beautification along the coastal area.
Ms. Tran Thi Mai, a business owner in the Thuan An coastal area, believes that the current infrastructure does not match the local development potential. While many tourists visit, numerous roads are narrow and dilapidated, making travel inconvenient. She argues that a more comprehensive infrastructure investment would provide a significant impetus for the development of services and tourism.
According to Le Dinh Phong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thuan An Ward, the locality has included roads and infrastructure under its management in the medium-term public investment plan for the period 2026-2030 to gradually implement them in the coming time. For roads needing connection to National Highways 49A and 49B, the locality has requested relevant departments and agencies to provide investment support; and has also proposed that authorities facilitate the completion of connection procedures to maximize the effectiveness of existing infrastructure. The locality will proactively review areas at risk of flooding and degraded roads to prioritize their treatment in order of urgency.
Many believe that, in addition to public investment, Thuan An needs to strengthen the socialization of projects such as lighting, landscaping, and urban beautification. Simultaneously, it is crucial to enhance coordination among infrastructure management units to ensure synchronized investment and avoid prolonged or overlapping construction that negatively impacts residents' lives. This is also a vital condition for Thuan An's development into a civilized and modern coastal city in the future.
