On November 25th and 26th, a delegation from the Japanese Government's Meteorological Agency (JMOFA) and Save the Children (SCI) made an important visit to Bac Yen district, Son La province. The purpose of the trip was to monitor the progress and evaluate the effectiveness of the project "Improving the Livelihoods of Ethnic Minorities in Son La Province through Agriculture and Nutrition Improvement" – a project funded by the Japanese government through SCI, as per Decision No. 1305/QD-UBND dated July 18, 2023, of the Son La Provincial People's Committee.

The visit took delegates to the villages where the project is being implemented in Chim Van and Lang Cheu communes. There, they had the opportunity to participate in practical activities, such as direct dialogue with the community on gender equality issues, visiting families with children under 2 years old and pregnant women, and learning about healthcare activities in Chim Van commune and the Lang Cheu Nutrition Rehabilitation Center.

After more than a year of implementation in the two districts of Bac Yen and Sop Cop, the project has yielded encouraging results. Nearly 1,000 households have received support in terms of plant and animal breeds, farming and cultivation techniques, significantly contributing to improved nutritional conditions and increased income through the sale of agricultural products. This is an important step in improving the quality of life for people in remote areas.

The initial successes further motivated the Project Management Board to continue its efforts. In the coming period, they will focus on building production groups, seeking additional support from donors to provide seeds, supplies, fertilizers, and technical training. In particular, the project will expand its support to mothers with children under 24 months old in three communes: Chim Vàn, Làng Chếu, and Xím Vàng (Bắc Yên district) and three communes: Mường Và, Púng Bánh, and Sam Kha (Sốp Cộp district).

The visit by Japanese representatives and SCI was not just a routine monitoring activity, but also a testament to the effective cooperation between Vietnam and Japan in supporting socio-economic development and improving the quality of life for ethnic minorities in Son La. The "seeds of hope" sown today will contribute to a brighter future for generations to come.
