Bentley has just unveiled a special Ombré paint option at Monterey Car Week (USA), first appearing on the Continental GT Speed one-off model. This unique effect will soon be applied to the luxury sedan Flying Spur as a customization option. The Flying Spur in Ombré paint is set to be unveiled at the Southampton International Boat Show this weekend. The exterior features a gradual color transition from Topaz Blue at the front to a darker Windsor Blue at the rear, creating a subtle visual effect across the entire body.
According to Bentley, the process of creating the Ombré paint requires two highly skilled technicians working continuously for 60 hours. First, the car is coated with two basic paint layers on the front and rear, then goes through many stages of spraying and processing to create a smooth, symmetrical color transition effect between the two sides of the body. Due to its complexity, Bentley claims this is the most exclusive paint option from Mulliner, its renowned personalisation division. The starting price for this option is $68,000, which is on par with the price of many luxury cars. The price of this special Ombré paint color for this Bentley super luxury car even exceeds that of a BMW 320i Sportline 2025 currently being sold in Vietnam (about 1.6 billion VND).
Not only is it expensive, Ombré is also difficult to apply because it requires perfect coordination between two colors. If you do not choose the right color, the body of the car can accidentally appear an unwanted third color. For example, if you go from yellow to blue, the middle section becomes green – an outcome Bentley wants to avoid. So at the beginning, the company only offers three main color combinations: Topaz Blue to Windsor Blue, Tungsten Silver to Onyx Black, Sunburst Gold to Orange Flame. Bentley also said that it will expand the Ombré color options in the near future. At the cost of a luxury car, the Ombré paint option is not just a color but also a symbol of personalized class.
Every paint reacts differently when sprayed, so the skill lies in how the technician handles the painting process. This makes each car unique yet perfect. This is also a testament to Bentley's philosophy of turning each car into a unique handcrafted work, aimed at high-end customers looking for absolute distinction.
