There are many factors that make a memorable holiday, including beautiful beaches, delicious food , and luxury hotels... But at the top of the list, it's the people that make or break a destination, and for the 2025 Readers' Choice Awards, Condé Nast Travel asked readers to find the local communities that travelers love most. The friendliness of countries is calculated from reader responses in different categories, combined into an overall percentage score. This list does not include countries in Europe (which have their own separate lists).

Here are the friendliest countries in the world , the scores are percentages that represent the average overall satisfaction of visitors.

Thais have long been considered the most hospitable people on the planet, earning them the nickname “Land of Smiles” from tourists. As you fill your Thailand itinerary with dreamy island adventures and gilded temples, there’s no doubt that the generous people will be more than happy to guide you along the way.

Tied for eighth place, the Seychelles may have the smallest population on the list, but its 107,000 inhabitants still leave a strong impression on visitors. Comprising 115 islands scattered across the Indian Ocean, only eight of which are inhabited, the stunning unspoiled nature here can only be described as paradise, while the cultural landscape is a colourful blend of African, European and Asian influences.

7. Mauritius (96.67 points)

Rolling rice paddies, ancient cities and enchanting emerald bays – there’s no place on earth quite like Vietnam, and the people are eager to share it all with visitors. Community is the remarkable fabric of society here, from the unique “sidewalk culture” of street vendors, fitness groups and barbers, to the cosy homestays in remote villages. No trip to Vietnam is complete without experiencing the legendary Ha Giang loop – a four-day motorbike journey that winds through deep mountain valleys. While most visitors sign up for the stunning scenery, what really sticks in their memories is the inseparable bond with friendly Vietnamese drivers.

Kenya was named the world's friendliest country in 2025, and it's easy to see why. The Big Five animals often take center stage here, but behind every exciting safari in Kenya are plenty of more affable guides who will make you feel completely at ease, even when you're just metres away from a prowling lion. Nairobi's diverse nightlife reflects Kenya's passion for partying, while those looking for a more relaxing holiday can explore the dreamy coastline, dotted with five-star resorts along endless stretches of white sand.
