Dare to be different helps female entrepreneur create famous men's fashion brand

In just 12 years, businesswoman Dinh Ngoc Phuong - Founder and CEO of Veneto has built a famous Vietnamese fashion brand in the market, especially in the men's veston segment. Her sharing with PNVN has suggested strategies for women to start a successful business in fields that seem to have advantages for men.

Reverse thinking helps find opportunities

+ When starting a business, women in the fashion industry often choose the women's segment because they have the advantage of understanding their customers. Why did you "go against the flow" and choose to do men's fashion, but instead, make suits to start a business?

Honestly, I started because of a very simple hobby: watching international movies, I saw men in neat and beautiful suits. A well-fitting suit can change their demeanor, making them more confident and attractive. I believe that any man, of any age or profession, deserves to have the most elegant image of himself. Before starting with suits, I also made many other fashion products.

But looking at the market at that time, I realized that men's suits were not much interested. Consumers either had to look for foreign brands, or tailor-made at high costs, or accept unsatisfactory ready-made products. Therefore, I wanted to try my hand at this gap. After researching, I chose the Italian style because it balances elegance and comfort, luxury but not ostentatious. I feel this is very suitable for the physique and aesthetic taste of Vietnamese men.

+ Normally, men's veston brands are often associated with the image of male businessmen. However, Venesto chose sports stars as its brand image. Why did you choose this direction?

Football and fashion may seem far apart at first, but both carry the spirit of conquest, youthful energy and manliness. By inviting players to be representatives, I want to send the message that suits are not only for businessmen or formal occasions, but can also be an everyday fashion choice for young people.

+ Based on your practical experience, what difficulties and advantages do women often encounter when starting a business in the men's fashion industry?

The biggest challenge is probably prejudice. Society often assumes that only men understand what men want to wear. This sometimes makes women hesitate. But on the other hand, women have their own strengths: subtlety in observation, the ability to grasp details and the sensitivity to new trends.

I think the most important thing is not the gender of the worker but carefully researching customer needs and having a professional working team to develop the brand together.

Hope veston become popular clothing

+ So how do you make Venesto a veston brand that many men choose? In particular, how do you balance a multi-segment business strategy with creativity in the fashion industry?

What I hope most is that suits become closer to Vietnamese men in their daily lives. To do that, we rely on three pillars: Products; Brand Values and Customer Experience. Each suit must fit, be comfortable and flattering, so that customers can feel the difference right from the first time they try it on. Venesto does not just sell clothes but also spreads the neat, elegant and confident lifestyle of men. We increase our focus on customer experience with tailoring services, personalized consultation and convenient shopping experiences both online and offline.

To balance the multi-segment business strategy and the creative element, I always determine that every creation must bring real value to customers. Creativity in design is necessary, but I always remind myself that every creation must bring specific value to customers: easy to wear, beautiful, comfortable and at the right price.

+ Listening to you share, I see that Venesto has the ambition to make veston become a more familiar outfit for Vietnamese men. So for the young customer group, who prefer freedom and there are currently many brands serving that need, what strategy does Venesto have to conquer them?

It is true that young people often prefer comfort and dynamism, but I believe that they are also increasingly interested in a neat image and professionalism. Therefore, Venesto orients its products based on three core elements. In terms of design, we develop slim fit shapes (body-hugging shapes) to help the wearer look neat and youthful but still easy to move. In terms of materials, we use imported fabrics that are treated to make the veston light, airy, suitable for Vietnam. And thirdly, customer experience, in addition to the showroom system, Venesto promotes an online platform so that customers can easily make appointments and receive personalized advice.

+ In the fashion industry, building a multi-channel distribution strategy, especially offline and online, is always a headache for business owners today. With a product that requires a lot of practical experience like veston, how do you handle the problem?

In my opinion, each channel has its own role and when combined, they complement each other. In-store, customers can directly try and feel the change. Online brings convenience, from viewing samples, making appointments to buying more products.

It’s important that the shopping journey is seamless: the customer can start online and finish in-store, or vice versa. By maintaining this connection, we’re not just selling a suit, but building a lasting relationship with the customer.

+ Thank you and wish you and Veneto further development!

How to "seduce" your husband into wearing a suit

Many women want their husbands to wear suits but often have difficulty convincing them. I think the simplest way is to create opportunities for them to experience it themselves. When wearing a well-fitting suit, most men are surprised by the change: more confident, more stylish. At that time, the suit itself becomes the most powerful persuasion. A compliment or gentle suggestion from the wife will help them realize: the suit is not restrictive, but also a way to show their strength and self-respect.
