Currently, the environment is facing many serious challenges such as climate change, environmental pollution, plastic waste, and the depletion of natural resources. These issues not only affect the sustainable development of the province and the country but also directly impact the health and lives of every individual, including students.
Ms. Phan My Hanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, stated: Identifying environmental protection education for students as one of the important tasks, the Department of Education and Training has actively directed educational institutions to integrate environmental protection and sustainable development education into the curriculum and experiential activities, extracurricular activities, and green innovation competitions. In addition, schools have focused on organizing activities such as: sorting waste at source; planting and caring for trees; saving electricity and water; maintaining the pedagogical landscape at schools, and the landscape of historical sites and geological park heritage in the communes and wards...
Many effective models and approaches have been implemented, such as: Building "Happy Schools"; Building "Green, Clean, and Beautiful Schools"; "Saying No to Plastic Waste"; Tree Planting Festival... Educational institutions are always actively implementing propaganda and education on environmental protection, focusing on the core values of the Green Index such as: energy saving; sorting solid household waste at source; reducing the use of single-use plastics; protecting the landscape; building green and friendly schools…
Many units have been creative in visual communication using banners, slogans, videos , digital media products, etc., contributing to the formation of environmental protection awareness from an early age in school. According to statistics, in 2025, the entire sector organized over 770 awareness sessions, attracting over 20,700 cadres, teachers, and staff and over 192,500 students, and distributed over 70 leaflets, banners, and posters.
According to Mr. Hua Vinh Phuc , Secretary of the Youth Union of the Provincial Ethnic Boarding High School: The school's Youth Union consistently maintains good discipline and internal order through organizing general cleaning of classrooms and school grounds, caring for flowers and trees, and encouraging students to enthusiastically participate in activities and movements such as: the Plastic Waste Exchange Day; Green Sunday; Volunteer Saturday…
Alongside awareness campaigns, many schools also organize creative green initiatives or incorporate this content into their emulation movements. For example, in recent years, Hoang Van Thu Secondary School has actively organized extracurricular programs such as arts competitions, painting contests, presentations, video production, and essay writing on the topic of environmental protection, attracting a large number of students to participate.
These activities have contributed to raising awareness among students about the importance of the environment. Nguyen Minh Chau, a 7th-grade student at Hoang Van Thu Secondary School, said: "From the knowledge imparted by our teachers, we have developed a sense of self-awareness and responsibility through even the smallest actions, such as: not littering; saving electricity and water; planting and caring for trees; and limiting the use of single-use plastic items..."
With the joint efforts of all levels of government, departments, teachers, and students, we believe that the environmental protection movement in schools will spread even further, contributing to building a green, friendly, and sustainable educational environment.
