The dynamism of sports and physical education in Cao Bang province.

Over the past period, the development of mass sports and physical education in Cao Bang province has always received special attention. This is also an important content set out in the Plan for implementing the Strategy for the Development of Sports and Physical Education in Vietnam until 2030, with a vision to 2045, in the province.

Diverse sports and physical training movements

To meet the requirements and tasks set out in the current period, all levels and sectors in the province have continuously strived to implement many solutions to promote the development of sports and physical education in general, and mass sports and physical education in particular.

The highlight is the continued effective implementation of the campaign "All people practice physical training following the example of the great President Ho Chi Minh," linked with the movement "All people unite to build a cultured life" and the campaign "All people unite to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas."

The promotion of the role and benefits of sports and physical education, implemented regularly and in various forms, has contributed to raising awareness among all segments of the population. As a result, mass sports and physical education activities consistently attract large numbers of participants. Sports such as folk dance, yoga, aerobics, football, volleyball, soft volleyball, badminton, and recently, the new sport of pickleball, have also developed strongly throughout the province.

Preserving and developing traditional sports is an important task in the province's sports development plan.

In addition to promoting various forms of training and diversifying content, the Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has coordinated with other units to organize many sports competitions serving political tasks and important events of the country and the province. Particularly, during the month of sports activities to celebrate the traditional day of the sports sector (March 27th) and other anniversaries, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and many localities in the province have also organized the "Olympic Run for Public Health 2025" with an increasing scale and number of participants.

The development of mass sports is the foundation for promoting high-performance sports in the province. The selection, training, and coaching of athletes for high-performance sports teams are maintained, ensuring a focused and targeted approach, concentrating on strong sports disciplines that suit local conditions. Currently, the Provincial Center for Sports and Arts Training and Competition is training 245 high-performance athletes in the following sports: Athletics (28 athletes), Basketball (16 athletes), Dancesport (39 athletes), Pencak Silat (38 athletes), Tennis (14 athletes), Chess (16 athletes), Badminton (20 athletes), Kickboxing (19 athletes), Boxing (24 athletes), Jujitsu (16 athletes), Aerobics (6 athletes), Karate (5 athletes), and Table Tennis (4 athletes).

With proper guidance and investment, athletes from many provincial teams have achieved impressive results in national and international competitions. Notably, the Jujitsu team performed excellently at the 2025 Asian Junior Jujitsu Championships in Thailand , winning 13 medals (2 gold, 1 silver, and 10 bronze). Developing sports among ethnic minority communities.

As a province with 27 ethnic groups, the majority of whom are Tay (accounting for 41.0% of the population), Nung (31.1%), and the remaining minority groups such as Hmong, Dao, and San Chay, Cao Bang province prioritizes the development of ethnic sports and folk games alongside general development. This is considered an important and ongoing task aimed at improving the health and spiritual well-being of the people of all ethnic groups, while also contributing to the preservation and promotion of traditional ethnic sports and folk games of the ethnic minorities in the province.

To promote sports and physical activities among ethnic minority communities, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism always closely coordinates with all levels, sectors, and localities to strengthen propaganda work, provide professional support for competitions, and restore and preserve folk games and ethnic sports. In addition, it regularly organizes competitions incorporating ethnic sports into festivals, holidays, and local sports events, aiming to create beneficial recreational opportunities for ethnic minorities.

Accordingly, traditional sports are regularly organized in the province, such as: stick pushing, tug-of-war, throwing the ball, chess, swinging, stilt racing, spinning tops, stick fighting, firecracker fighting, crossbow shooting, swallow fighting, grass pulling, traditional martial arts, horse racing, etc. The development of traditional sports and folk games among ethnic communities is not only a sporting activity that brings health to the people but also contributes to creating a highlight for Cao Bang to attract domestic and foreign tourists.

According to Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ngoc Van Chan: in the coming time, the Department will continue to advise the Provincial People's Committee on the management and development of sports and physical education, issue guiding documents and build plans for the new phase. It will promote mass sports movements, improve the quality of activities in departments, agencies, organizations, and localities, aiming to improve the health of the entire population.

In addition, it is important to effectively promote the socialization of sports and physical training, strengthen the exploitation and efficient use of the sports and physical training facilities; focus on developing mass sports and physical training in conjunction with the preservation and development of traditional sports to create a cohesive environment among people in ethnic minority areas...

With synchronized solutions, sports and physical education in general, and mass sports and physical education in particular, including the task of preserving, maintaining, and developing ethnic sports in the northernmost province of the country, promise to flourish and deepen further.

In 2024, Cao Bang achieved a rate of 30.5% of people regularly participating in sports and 20.5% of families involved in sports. 100% of schools in the area ensured the implementation of physical education programs; 97% of officers and soldiers of the armed forces regularly engaged in physical training. Notably, the model of sports clubs, teams, and groups developed both in quantity and quality.

By 2030, the goal is to have over 35% of the population regularly participating in sports and physical training; over 25% of families participating in sports and physical training; at least 3 athletes selected for the national team to compete in the Southeast Asian, Asian, and World Games; to train over 500 athletes for provincial teams, youth teams, and talent development teams; over 85% of coaches meeting national standards; participation in at least 15 national-level sports competitions; at least 15 athletes achieving national-level status; and over 100 national-level medals of all types.
