Currently, Can Tho City Power Company manages and operates 12 110kV substations along with more than 55,000km of medium and low voltage power lines… With the existing power grid infrastructure, the electricity sector basically meets the needs of consumption as well as electricity for production, business and commercial activities in the city. However, to ensure stable and reliable electricity supply for the city, the Company has directed its subordinate power companies to strengthen inspections of medium and low voltage power lines and substations, especially in areas prone to overload; proactively implement plans to protect the safety of high voltage power line corridors to minimize power outages; Implementing a priority power supply plan for key electricity customers, as well as ensuring a stable power supply for important festivals, events, and celebrations as required by the city… As a result, in the first months of 2025, the electricity sector successfully maintained power for 33 important events held in Can Tho, as well as ensuring a stable power supply for more than 420,000 electricity customers in the city.
According to Can Tho City Power Company, in the first four months of 2025, the total commercial electricity output of Can Tho City reached over 1.1 billion kWh, an increase of more than 4.7% compared to the same period last year. This shows that the demand for electricity in various sectors and fields in the city is increasing. To meet this high demand and serve the city's socio -economic growth, in the first months of 2025, the company focused on investing in upgrading, renovating, and constructing many new power grid projects in the city. Many key projects have already been put into operation, contributing to improving the quality of electricity supply for people's lives and promoting socio-economic development in the localities.
Mr. Nguyen Chi Nhon, Deputy Director of Can Tho City Power Company, said: One of the key projects that the power sector is striving to invest in and build in 2025 is the Cai Rang 110kV substation and connecting power lines, with a total substation capacity of 2x63MVA. This project, invested by the Southern Power Corporation with a total investment of over 110 billion VND, was officially commissioned and put into operation at the end of April 2025, contributing to improving the reliability of continuous power supply and meeting the load demand for the key industrial development area of Cai Rang district and neighboring areas of Can Tho City. In addition, the power sector also completed the medium and low voltage capacitor banks and switching equipment in April 2025, contributing to improving voltage quality and reducing power losses on the grid for many localities; Construction is underway on 10 22kV power grid projects in districts and counties, reaching over 80% completion; a new 22kV power line is being built to connect to the 110kV Binh Thuy substation… These power projects, both those already invested in and those being built, not only help improve the reliability of electricity supply to localities but also enhance the quality of electricity, optimally serving the needs of daily life and the expansion of production and business activities of local people.
Along with efforts to invest in construction and strengthen the implementation of technical solutions to improve the efficiency of power grid operation and serve the city's need for safe and reliable electricity supply, Can Tho City Power Company has been gradually improving the power grid towards automation for unmanned 110kV substations. Currently, all 110kV substations are equipped with SCADA systems synchronized with control systems, serving to monitor and operate the power grid… thereby improving the reliability of electricity supply to customers.
To meet the electricity demand for the city's socio-economic growth, the Can Tho City Power Company, in coordination with relevant departments and levels, will focus on mobilizing resources to invest in the development of the power grid system. Simultaneously, the Can Tho City Power Company will continue to promote the application of information technology in customer service activities on a digital platform, gradually increasing customer satisfaction with existing electricity services.
