Creating momentum for the development of OCOP products.

Implementing the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program, by 2025, the entire province is expected to have 323 products participating in the OCOP product ranking assessment. To ensure the sustainable and effective development of the OCOP product development movement, establishing display, introduction, and sales points for these products (OCOP product sales points) is essential.

Many product sales outlets are operating effectively.

In 2020, Thien An One-Member Limited Liability Company received over 80 million VND in support from the province to build an OCOP product sales point at 108 Dao Su Tich Street ( Bac Giang City). Thanks to effective business operations, from 2020 to the present, the company has invested an additional 1.3 billion VND to upgrade the sales point with items such as: additional shelves, display cabinets, and product storage; an air conditioning system; and sales management software. A company representative said that the province's support was like a "boost" for the company to invest and expand its business. As a result, the number of customers has increased steadily, and the store's revenue currently reaches over 1 billion VND per month, creating stable jobs for 3 employees.

Customers purchase goods at the exhibition point, which also supports cooperatives in selling OCOP products - regional specialties of Bac Giang province.

Similarly, in 2020, the business owned by Nguyen Thi Chinh at 454 Le Loi Street, Hoang Van Thu Ward (Bac Giang City) also received provincial support to open a display area for OCOP products at her home. According to Ms. Chinh, the store currently sells more than 40 OCOP products from the province, all of which are processed and packaged. To serve a diverse range of customers, in addition to products from within the province, the store also displays many famous OCOP products from other provinces, and focuses on expanding its distribution channels, thus becoming a reliable sales point for many people.

Bac Giang province currently has 415 OCOP products, with 20 products rated 4 stars and the rest rated 3 stars. From 2020 to the present, localities in the province have established 16 OCOP product sales points, generating tens of billions of VND in revenue annually.

It is known that in 2020, the province provided 430 million VND to build 5 OCOP product sales points in the districts of Luc Nam, Yen The, Viet Yen town, and Bac Giang city. In addition, Hiep Hoa district also built one OCOP product sales point in Thang town. These sales points are all located in densely populated areas, linked to tourist attractions, and operate as self-service stores.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade's assessment, most models have proven effective. As a result, the province now has 16 OCOP product sales points (6 in Bac Giang City; 3 in Yen The District; 2 each in Hiep Hoa District and Viet Yen Town; and 1 each in Son Dong, Luc Nam, and Lang Giang Districts). Along with provincial support, localities, businesses, the Provincial Cooperative Union, cooperatives, and households participating in the OCOP program have invested billions of dong to build business models, generating tens of billions of dong in revenue annually.

At the end of 2024, the Bac Giang Provincial Cooperative Development Support Center (under the Provincial Cooperative Union) established a model "Exhibition, Introduction and Support Point for Cooperatives to Sell OCOP Products - Regional Specialties" on the first floor of the Center's headquarters building, No. 367, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street (Bac Giang City). This contributes to promoting and selling the province's OCOP products, creating opportunities for consumers to purchase and use quality products with clear origins.

Sharing experiences

It is known that to achieve these results, the OCOP product sales points all faced difficulties, with some even having to cease operations (such as the one at the Agricultural Service and Technical Center of Viet Yen town). The main reasons were limited product promotion; small display spaces; lack of product variety; and some OCOP products from the province not being as popular with consumers as similar products from other provinces,...

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Luy, Head of the Bac Giang Rural Development Sub-Department, many businesses are still hesitant to participate in product displays at OCOP product sales points or attend trade fairs due to a lack of funds for promotional activities. Recently, e-commerce has developed strongly, but many businesses have not yet accessed and applied it; some OCOP product sales points have joined e-commerce platforms but lack staff to process orders and respond to customers, thus limiting product sales.

Based on the experience of the locality with the highest number of OCOP products (88 products) and the most effective OCOP product sales points in the province, Ms. Ha Ngoc Hoa, Deputy Head of the Department of Economy, Infrastructure and Urban Development of Bac Giang City, shared that in addition to convenient and suitable locations, OCOP product sales points must be managed by dedicated individuals with knowledge and business skills.

To ensure the sales points operate effectively and achieve their set goals, in addition to proposing financial support from the city, the Department also organizes visits for businesses to learn from experiences in other localities, acts as a bridge connecting with OCOP product producers, and organizes training in business skills and e-commerce. “To meet the consumer needs of the people and promote the development of the OCOP program, the unit will soon advise the city to support the establishment of several new OCOP product sales points,” Ms. Hoa said.

Discussing this issue, Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, Deputy Director of the Information and Communication Technology Center (Department of Science and Technology), acknowledged that, in addition to support from the government, entities establishing OCOP product sales points need to hone their digital business skills and invest in sales management software systems that meet requirements. They also need technical and support staff to manage and process orders and customer feedback promptly. Only then can they keep up with current business trends and create momentum for the development of OCOP products.
