- In Bac Son commune, many households have participated in community-based tourism, providing accommodation, food services, selling local specialties, and organizing experiential activities for tourists. As a result, many workers have regular jobs, their incomes have improved, and their living standards have been enhanced.
Instead of leaving his hometown to work elsewhere like many young people his age, Duong Cong Co (born in 1994), from Na Rieng village, Bac Son commune, chose to stay in his hometown to find ways to develop the local economy using its existing advantages. Co shared: "I realized that my hometown has beautiful natural scenery with the famous Bac Son valley, along with many unique cultural features of the Tay and Nung ethnic groups, which are very favorable for developing community-based tourism. Therefore, in 2020, I decided to borrow capital to invest in renovating my existing stilt house and building auxiliary facilities, developing a homestay model to welcome tourists."

To date, Mr. Co's homestay welcomes nearly 2,000 guests annually. Along with his traditional herbal rice wine brewing business, his family earns nearly 350 million VND per year. Not only does this provide a stable income for his family, but Mr. Co also contributes to creating jobs for local workers. During festivals, holidays, or periods of high guest numbers, he often hires additional seasonal workers to assist with cooking, cleaning, and serving guests, paying them approximately 200,000 to 300,000 VND per person per day.
Currently, Quynh Son Community-Based Tourism Village has 9 operating homestays, offering many attractive experiential services for tourists such as bonfires, making traditional cakes, enjoying local specialties, and participating in cultural exchanges with traditional folk songs like Then singing, Vi singing, and Tan Dan dancing... Diversifying tourism products not only enhances the attractiveness of the destination but also expands job opportunities and increases income for local people.
Mr. Duong Cong Trong, a member of the Quynh Son Community Cultural and Arts Team, said: "The team was established in 2010. Previously, we mainly performed at festivals or local cultural programs. In recent years, the team has regularly participated in performances for tourists at homestays and cultural experience programs. During the peak tourist season, from around July to December each year, the team has performances scheduled almost every day. Thanks to this, each member earns an additional income of 2 to 4 million VND per month."
Community-based tourism is increasingly asserting its role in economic development and job creation in the area. Currently, community-based tourism provides regular employment for approximately 90 workers, along with many seasonal workers. Along with the development of tourism services, the number of visitors to Bac Son is continuously increasing. In 2025, the commune is expected to welcome over 160,000 visitors, generating 80 billion VND in tourism revenue; in the first six months of 2026, it is projected to welcome approximately 78,000 visitors, with estimated revenue of 39 billion VND, the majority of which will come from community-based tourism. These results have contributed to raising people's income, creating more local jobs, and promoting local economic development.
Mr. Phuong Anh Tu, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Son commune, said: "To make community-based tourism a true driving force for economic development and create sustainable jobs for the people, the commune has focused on improving the quality of human resources in tourism through organizing training courses on accommodation, processing and introducing traditional cuisine, food safety and hygiene, first aid skills, and basic foreign language communication. At the same time, we have paid attention to training a team of young community tour guides who are knowledgeable about local culture and history to improve the quality of experiential activities and better meet the needs of tourists."
It can be seen that community-based tourism not only helps generate additional income and reduce the number of young people leaving their hometowns to find work, but also effectively exploits existing cultural values, landscapes, and potential for economic development. With the active participation of the people and appropriate development orientation, community-based tourism in Quynh Son is gradually becoming an important driving force in creating sustainable livelihoods, improving living standards, and promoting socio-economic development in Bac Son commune.
