On October 12, the US nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan arrived in the South Korean port city of Busan in a show of force aimed at responding to nuclear threats.
According to Kyodo, the appearance of the USS Ronald Reagan coincided with a two-day joint military exercise between the United States, South Korea, and Japan on October 9 and 10 in international waters southeast of Jeju Island, South Korea.
The South Korean Defense Ministry said the five-day visit of the aircraft carrier and its escort group is part of an agreement signed between Seoul and Washington in April to strengthen the regular presence of U.S. partners in the region.
The last time this aircraft carrier visited South Korea was in September 2022, its first port call in five years.
Another US nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, the Nimitz, also visited Busan port last March.
