Amidst the bustling crowds returning home for Tet at Tan Son Nhat Airport in the final days of the twelfth lunar month, Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh, 45 years old, from Hai Duong province, a worker at Baria Serece Joint Stock Company in Ba Ria - Vung Tau, shared, "When I heard the company's Trade Union announce that I would receive support for a Vietnam Airlines flight ticket to go home for Tet, I was so happy I wanted to cry. Immediately, I called my parents to share the good news because for many years, due to difficult economic conditions, I haven't had the opportunity to go home to visit them."
Sharing the joy of celebrating Tet with family after 6 years away from home, Mr. Nguyen Van Manh, originally from Thanh Hoa province and a worker at MJ Apparel Co., Ltd. in Dong Nai province, also said that returning to his parents makes Tet feel truly close. This is also the happiest year for him as he was selected as one of the people to receive free plane tickets to return home.
To support struggling workers, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) collaborated with Vietnam Airlines to organize special flights, named "Trade Union Flights - Spring 2025," bringing 450 workers back to their hometowns to celebrate Tet (Lunar New Year). This program aims to bring migrant workers back to reunite with their families and fully enjoy the happiness of the traditional Tet holiday in 2025. This is an annual activity implemented by Vietnam Airlines with the hope that after a year of hard work, everyone has the opportunity to return to their families, share the joy of reunion, and enjoy the sacred moments of the traditional Tet holiday.
According to Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Ha, Head of the Policy, Legal and Labor Relations Department of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL), approximately 45,000 people have been connected with transportation units such as airlines, trains, and buses to return home for Tet (Lunar New Year). Notably, among these special circumstances, some individuals haven't been home for Tet with their families for over 22 years. "This is a very meaningful activity, creating additional motivation for workers and contributing to the development of businesses in particular and society in general," Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Ha shared.
Flexible forms of Tet holiday care for workers.
According to a quick report from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor on the results of caring for union members and workers during the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake 2025, with the motto "All union members and workers have a happy Tet", Tet care activities implemented by all levels of trade unions have been diverse, flexible, and focused at the grassroots level, ensuring convenience for union members to participate, and suitable to the conditions and realities of the locality and unit.

The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) continues to organize the online "Trade Union Tet Market 2025" program to give Tet shopping vouchers to union members and workers nationwide through the website: chotet.Congdoan.vn. The VGCL also distributed 200,000 shopping vouchers to union members and workers, each worth 500,000 VND. The "Trade Union Tet Market 2025" program, organized by the VGCL in Hai Phong city, featured over 200 booths and nearly 200 businesses, attracting approximately 40,000 union members and workers. This contributed to improving the material well-being of union members and workers during the Tet holiday. In addition, support was provided for transporting union members and workers back to their hometowns for Tet (Lunar New Year) and back to work during the Tet holiday of the Year of the Snake 2025. Furthermore, trade unions at all levels actively implemented support for purchasing train, bus, and plane tickets for union members and workers facing difficulties returning home for Tet. As a result, over 45,500 union members, workers, and their relatives were able to return home for Tet on buses, trains, and planes, with a total cost exceeding 40 billion VND.
At the level of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, the Trade Union also organized the "Trade Union Flight - Spring 2025" with two flights, bringing 450 union members and workers working in the southern provinces and cities back to their hometowns to celebrate Tet; and organized the "Trade Union Train - Spring 2025". In addition, activities to care for the Lunar New Year 2025 continued to be organized at four levels of the Trade Union, focusing on the grassroots level. Priority was given to union members and workers with particularly difficult circumstances, those who had suffered work accidents, occupational diseases, serious illnesses, or were affected by natural disasters and floods; union members and workers who were unemployed or underemployed; union members and workers from policy beneficiary families, ethnic minorities, or those who had not been able to return home to reunite with their families during the Lunar New Year for many years; and union members and workers who could not return home for Tet to work and produce.
According to incomplete reports from localities and units during the 2025 Lunar New Year, over 8.6 million union members and workers benefited from welfare activities organized by the Trade Union, with a total expenditure of more than 4,750.5 billion VND. Of this, 3,054.5 billion VND came from the Trade Union's own funds, and 1,696 billion VND (35.7%) was raised through social contributions to support union members and workers.
