Overview of the National Scientific Conference on Art Education Oriented Towards Developing Qualities and Competencies in General Education Institutions in Vietnam.

To accurately assess the current state of art education in Vietnam in the new era; to clearly define the position and role of art teachers, music teachers, and fine arts teachers in general education institutions in Vietnam; to discuss music and fine arts textbooks according to the 2018 general education curriculum; and to propose and exchange ideas on development directions and the contributions of art education to human development, Hanoi University of Education is organizing the National Scientific Conference on Art Education with a Competency-Based Orientation in General Education Institutions in Vietnam.

The workshop attracted participation and contributions from experts and scientists from the Art Teacher Training Club, Hanoi Pedagogical University, Central University of Arts Education, Vietnam National Academy of Music, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Vietnam Fine Arts University, etc. The reports submitted to the workshop presented a multifaceted picture of competency-oriented art education in general education institutions in Vietnam. Based on these presentations, the workshop focused on three main topics: Art teachers, Art education in the 2018 general education curriculum, and Art as a subject in general schools.

Dr. Tran Thi Thu Ha - Head of the Faculty of Arts, Hanoi Pedagogical University, presented her research topic at the conference.

In her introductory report at the conference, Dr. Tran Thi Thu Ha, Head of the Faculty of Arts, Hanoi Pedagogical University , stated that the topic "Art Teachers" presents an overall picture of art teacher training (Music, Fine Arts) at art education institutions nationwide today. Most of the papers address the difficulties and shortcomings in training teachers to develop students' qualities and competencies, while also offering solutions to overcome these issues. Other papers address the current state of traditional cultural values ​​education or improving the digital skills of Music Education students in the context of digital transformation...

"In addition, there was the topic of Art Education in the 2018 General Education Program. This research direction offered fresh perspectives and made significant contributions to the conference content, and it was also the topic that attracted the most participation from scientists. The papers addressed the goals, orientations, and methods of art education; the current situation and solutions to improve the quality of art teaching in general schools according to the learner-centered approach. Some papers were reflections on the curriculum, textbook compilation, and the inclusion of traditional Vietnamese music in the current general education curriculum...", shared Dr. Tran Thi Thu Ha.

Along with 64 papers submitted to the organizing committee, at the conference on the morning of August 21st, more than 5 presentations by speakers were presented and discussed enthusiastically on various aspects of art education, pedagogy in general, and music and fine arts education in particular. These presentations clarified reliable scientific foundations and offered practical suggestions and recommendations to help address the challenges facing art education, aiming to train a generation of young people who are well-rounded, possessing both virtue and talent to build the nation, said Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Trao, Vice Rector of Hanoi Pedagogical University.
