Penalties for violations
Specifically, for running a red light, drivers may face fines ranging from 4,000,000 to 6,000,000 VND according to Decree No. 100/2019/ND-CP (amended by Decree 123/2021/ND-CP). In addition to the fine, the offending driver will also have their driver's license revoked for 1 to 3 months. In cases where the violation results in an accident, the license revocation period may extend from 2 to 4 months.
For speeding violations, the penalty is determined based on the severity of the offense.
Exceeding the speed limit by 5km/h to less than 10km/h: Fines range from 800,000 to 1,000,000 VND.
Exceeding the speed limit by 10km/h to less than 20km/h: Fines ranging from 4,000,000 to 6,000,000 VND and suspension of driver's license for 1 to 3 months.
Exceeding the speed limit by 20km/h to 35km/h: Fines ranging from 6,000,000 to 8,000,000 VND, along with license suspension for 2 to 4 months.
Exceeding the speed limit by more than 35km/h: The most severe penalty is a fine of 10,000,000 to 12,000,000 VND and suspension of the driver's license for 2 to 4 months.

When paying fines, offenders need to prepare the following documents: vehicle registration certificate, technical safety and environmental protection inspection certificate, driver's license, and citizen identification card. All documents must be photocopied for the payment process.
