According to the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen province, after the administrative unit reorganization, the province is entering a new phase of development with expanded space and a larger population; at the same time, forming a more closely linked development structure between dynamic urban areas, economic corridors, the midland and mountainous regions, and unique ecological zones.
Upon review, the province currently has 8 commune-level administrative units that meet the conditions and standards for establishing wards according to current laws, such as: technical and social infrastructure systems; positive economic shift; proportion of non- agricultural labor; and population size.
According to the proposal, Thai Nguyen province will establish 8 new wards, including: Cho Don ward; Dinh Hoa ward; Dong Hy ward; Phu Binh ward; Phu Luong ward; Quan Chu ward; Trai Cau ward and Vo Nhai ward.
The People's Committee of Thai Nguyen province believes that the establishment of 8 new wards will not change the natural area, population size, or the number of commune-level administrative units of the province.
If approved, the total number of commune-level administrative units in Thai Nguyen province will be 92, including 69 communes and 23 wards.
It is expected that this matter will be considered and approved by the Thai Nguyen Provincial People's Council at its fourth session, to be held at the end of June 2026.
