Prasat Kong Pagoda, also known as Tac Gong Pagoda or Tac Pagoda, was built during the post-Tran Dynasty period around the 14th century and has undergone numerous renovations and restorations to become an exceptionally beautiful and unique architectural masterpiece. Tac Gong Pagoda is famous for its Angkor-style architecture, particularly the soaring slate carvings resembling lotus flowers, the magnificent silk mosaics, and the exquisite ancient paintings on a finely crafted grey background.

The original main hall was built with egg-shaped stone – an uncommon material, giving the structure a unique character. Currently, the temple has been rebuilt but still retains the distinctive Angkor style through its intricate patterns and forms. Most impressive is the lotus pond to the east of the main hall. In the middle of the pond rises a stupa, where the relics of the abbots are enshrined. Beside it is a statue of the meditating Buddha on the back of a majestic seven-headed dragon, shielding the Buddha from the sun and rain – an image steeped in legend and reverence. Within the temple grounds are many preserved and displayed works of art, from Buddha statues and religious images to paintings depicting the life and spiritual journey of Siddhartha Gautama and his disciples. The temple's spacious and peaceful surroundings create a serene spiritual space, attracting numerous tourists and Buddhists from all over to visit and pray.

The Tac Gong Pagoda is also known for its long history and profound spiritual traditions. The pagoda houses many historical and cultural relics and is the site of numerous spiritual activities, such as festivals, celebrations, and prayers for peace. In Khmer, Prasat means "tower," and Kong means "to reside"—often used to refer to kings or royalty. Thus, Prasat Kong means "Tower where the King resides." Legend has it that during Khmer boat racing festivals on the river, when a king visited, he would often "reside" at the pagoda, hence its special name. This shows that the pagoda was not only a place of worship but also a gathering place, a center of commerce, and a cultural hub for the ancient Khmer community.

The Khmer people of Southern Vietnam have a rich cultural and spiritual life, in which festivals play a very important role, carrying both religious significance and being closely linked to agricultural production and community life. Every year, the three biggest festivals of the Khmer people – Chol Chnam Thmay, Sen Dolta, and Ok Om Bok – are celebrated very solemnly, along with many unique folk games such as boat racing, lantern release, Dù Kê singing, and Ram Vong dance…

Prasat Kong Pagoda is an attractive spiritual tourist destination in Can Tho, drawing many visitors to explore and participate in spiritual activities. At Prasat Kong Pagoda, visitors can experience a peaceful atmosphere, learn about the spiritual culture of the local people, and gain a deeper understanding of the vibrant flow of Khmer culture.
