(GLO) - On March 12th, in Ia Sao commune (Gia Lai province), the Plant Cultivation and Protection Station of Region 11, in coordination with ThaiBinh Seed Co., Ltd. - Central-Western Highlands Branch, organized a field workshop to summarize the model of planting and intensive cultivation of high-quality OM468 rice in the 2025-2026 Winter-Spring crop.

The model for cultivating and intensively growing high-quality OM468 rice was implemented in the Hoang 1 hamlet field on an area of ​​5 sao (approximately 0.5 hectares) belonging to Mr. Nay Blot's family.

After more than 3 months of cultivation, the OM468 rice variety has shown strong tillering ability, sturdy stems, and good resistance to pests and diseases, especially blast disease and brown planthopper. During the flowering stage, despite being affected by the cold weather of the winter-spring season, the rice did not suffer from empty grains, the panicles bloomed evenly, and the grains were bright and a beautiful yellow color.

Thanks to the application of ICM (Integrated Crop Management) processes and integrated pest management in the fields, the amount of seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides used has decreased, while rice yield is estimated at 9 tons of fresh rice per hectare. With the current price of fresh rice at 5,100 VND/kg, after deducting costs, households earn a profit of approximately 18.8 million VND/ha, which is 7.3 million VND/ha higher than fields outside the model. If the rice is dried and milled and sold at 12,000 VND/kg, the profit will reach 31.7 million VND/ha.

At the workshop, delegates exchanged and shared experiences in implementing the model and expressed their desire for the model to be further expanded in the next season, helping farmers increase productivity and economic value per unit area.
