For the youth of Hue, March is not only an opportunity to ignite ideals and enthusiasm but also to affirm their role in the community. Looking back at the glorious pages of history, we see that the young generations of Hue have always been at the forefront of major movements, pioneering and making history.
The Hue urban struggle movement before 1975, formed after the Geneva Accords, originated from the demands for peace and the implementation of the Geneva Accords by patriotic intellectuals and students in Hue such as Professor Ton That Duong Ky, engineer Nguyen Huu Dinh, Professor Cao Xuan Lu, Professor Ton That Duong Tien, and other prominent figures like Vo Dinh Cuong, Doan Van Long, and Le Quang Vinh. The movement quickly spread among intellectuals, religious figures, businesspeople, students, and small traders, launching strikes, street demonstrations, sleepless nights, and even singing for the people. It encompassed movements demanding the implementation of the Geneva Accords and the Paris Agreement, as well as famine relief and movements demanding better living conditions and democracy. The Hue urban movement created remarkable events with distinctive hallmarks, making a significant contribution to the success of the resistance war against the US.
Today, every March, those who participated in the urban struggle movement in Southern Vietnam before 1975 in general, and the Hue urban struggle movement in particular (often referred to as "movement activists") gather to reminisce about their traditions, remember their heroic youth, commemorate those who sacrificed themselves, share their concerns about the current situation, and remind themselves to live worthy of those who have passed away and the love and support that the people have given them.
Today, following in the footsteps of previous generations, the youth of Hue are still enthusiastically continuing the story of volunteerism with countless models and groups, engaging in hundreds of volunteer activities for the environment, blood donation, and programs to support poor students. The youth of Hue have been and are writing beautiful stories of compassion.
For example, amidst the vibrant atmosphere of the March 26th celebrations, Nguyen Minh Quan, a student at Hue University of Science , initiated the "Green Sunday" program in Thuy Xuan ward, calling on hundreds of youth union members and students to participate in cleaning up the banks of the Perfume River. Not only did he focus on environmental cleanup, but Quan also collaborated with a group of young people to develop a "smart recycling bin" model, contributing to spreading the message of protecting Hue's heritage and landscape.
Quân's story is a testament to the pioneering and creative spirit of Hue's youth: preserving traditional beauty while infusing it with a modern touch. In March, thanks to individuals like Quân, Hue is not only vibrant with flowers but also shines with the faith and aspirations of the younger generation...
