Through continuous efforts to overcome difficulties and challenges, many youth union members in Vinh Linh district have developed effective economic models. One of them is Le Vinh Long (born in 1987), Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union branch in Hoa Binh village, Hien Thanh commune.

Long was born and raised in a farming family, where life was quite difficult. After graduating from high school, due to a lack of resources to continue his education, he left his hometown and struggled to find work. In 2005, along with several others, Long went to Laos and Cambodia to work as a construction worker to make a living. Despite nearly 10 years of hardship in a foreign land, his family's situation did not improve.
Long confided: “In 2015, I decided to return to my hometown to find a new direction for production. With the capital I had saved and the experience I gained from years of working in construction, I established a team to undertake construction contracts for people's houses.”
Every profession has its difficulties, and as a contractor, I must constantly learn and gain experience in organizing teams, managing cash flow, calculating workloads, building reputation, finding clients, and ensuring work for my team.
Thanks to my determination to implement the idea, the difficulties gradually lessened, and now my work is quite stable. I receive more projects, which helps me earn more income and provide for my family.”
Besides his construction business, at the end of 2022, Long partnered with a friend to invest over 250 million VND in building pig pens for raising 150 pigs per batch. However, due to a lack of experience in pig farming, the initial herd grew slowly and sometimes suffered from disease outbreaks, causing losses. As a result, he lost 60 million VND on the first batch of pigs.
Undeterred by difficulties, in early 2023, he borrowed 90 million VND from the district's Social Policy Bank through the commune's youth union to rebuild his livestock herd. To raise pigs efficiently, he diligently read and researched livestock farming techniques and disease prevention methods in books and newspapers. As a result, in subsequent breeding cycles, the pigs suffered fewer diseases and fetched a good price. In addition to pig farming, Mr. Long also raises bees for honey.
Mr. Long shared: “I have been involved in beekeeping for 10 years now. Initially, it was just a few small colonies caught from the wild. Through good care, the bee colonies grew quickly, and I started dividing them. Now, my family has 30 bee colonies. Honey is of natural origin, so it has high nutritional value and is very popular with customers. Each year, my family's bee colonies produce about 100 liters of honey, bringing in an income of 60 million VND.”
Not only is he bold in economic development, but Long is also always dynamic and at the forefront of all activities at the grassroots level. As the deputy secretary of the village youth union, he focuses on attracting, gathering, and uniting youth union members through many specific and practical activities such as environmental sanitation campaigns, planting flowers and trees along youth-led flower-lined roads; organizing cultural, artistic, and sports exchange activities; pioneering the voluntary blood donation movement; and activities caring for children and teenagers in the locality.
According to Mr. Le Van Vinh, Secretary of the Hien Thanh Commune Youth Union: "Mr. Long is someone who always proactively seizes opportunities, has good and creative ways to exploit the potential and strengths of the locality, and strives to develop production and legitimately enrich himself on his homeland."
With an income exceeding 150 million VND per year, Long's diversified business model not only provides for his family but also serves as a motivation and inspiration for many young people, encouraging them to work hard and overcome difficulties on their entrepreneurial journey.
