Youth union members and young people in Chau Doc City march to raise awareness about traffic safety.
Recognizing the importance of building a civilized urban environment, the Youth Union in general, and the Youth Union branches at all levels in urban areas throughout the province in particular, have concretized this into the movement " An Giang Youth Participate in Building a Civilized Urban Environment," through many specific projects and tasks. Each Youth Union member also develops tasks suitable to their individual needs, contributing their youthful energy to the process of building the urban environment where they live," informed Do Minh Sang, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union and President of the Vietnam Youth Union of An Giang Province.
Every year, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Youth Union issues a plan to implement the movement; maintaining the "Youth Road Section" project to participate in building urban civilization, with mandatory criteria such as: flagpoles of the correct specifications, uniform and straight; roads and sidewalks always clean; no stagnant water, garbage, or wastewater; reasonable placement of trash cans along the entire road; planting trees in parks and flower gardens to create a green landscape; encouraging people to display portraits of President Ho Chi Minh in their homes; and organizing simultaneous "Green Sunday" activities in the "Volunteer Summer" campaign.
The results of the "Youth Road Construction" project, aimed at building urban civilization, were included by the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee as a criterion for evaluating emulation activities and ranking at the end of the year. In 2024, youth union branches at all levels implemented specific activities such as: cleaning; removing illegal advertising signs and posters on registered routes; distributing leaflets and promoting electricity conservation; coordinating with the police to ensure traffic safety and eliminate "black spots" of environmental pollution in canals and ditches in wards and towns throughout the province; and planting over 85,000 trees of various types along roads and in schools. These activities attracted nearly 7,000 youth union members. The entire province maintained 156 youth volunteer teams ensuring traffic safety, with the participation of over 1,900 youth union members, officials, and soldiers.
This year, with the same spirit of enthusiasm and volunteerism of young people, thousands of youth union members from all wards and towns in the province launched a campaign to build a civilized urban environment. A highlight is that the movement is linked to five teams. The "Youth Volunteer Team for Ensuring Security, Order, and Traffic Safety" is responsible for disseminating information on traffic safety, clearing sidewalk and road encroachments, and promoting disease prevention and control. The "Youth Volunteer Team for Environmental Protection" is responsible for promoting the reduction of plastic waste and replacing it with recycled products; environmental sanitation, and clearing drainage ditches. The "Youth Volunteer Team for Building a Civilized Urban Lifestyle" educates residents on building a civilized urban lifestyle; and removes illegal advertising signs on fences and utility poles in the area. The "Youth Volunteer Team for Building a Green, Clean, and Beautiful Urban Environment" plants trees and beautifies the urban landscape.
Most notably, the "Popular Digital Education Team" comprises youth union and association officials, members, and young people with good technological knowledge; capable of organizing activities to raise awareness and essential digital skills for the people (with a focus on the elderly and those with limited technological exposure). This team is responsible for guiding people and households to participate in reputable e-commerce platforms of domestic businesses; sales skills through e-commerce platforms; cashless electronic payment skills, and other digital applications serving production and business; and guiding them on online public services and interacting with the government through digital platforms. Through these small steps, the youth of the province hope to contribute to the larger steps of the entire province in forming a community adaptable to digital transformation; participating in building a digital government, a digital society, a digital economy , and digital citizens.
Secretary of the Youth Union of Chau Long 3 hamlet (Chau Phu B ward, Chau Doc city), Diep Nguyen Thuy Vy, affirmed: “Aware of the importance of building urban civilization, I and the local Youth Union members are determined to participate in the movement, doing what suits us, and contributing our youthful energy to this process. This year, I and the teams spread out along the streets; parading on motorbikes to promote the building of a civilized city in Chau Doc city.”
“With the motto ‘Urban youth behave culturally, act civilly,’ we call on the youth of the entire province to join hands in building an increasingly civilized and modern city, changing inappropriate behaviors themselves, and building an ideal youth model. Each Youth Union member is an active communicator, spreading the standards of a civilized city, the new way of life in the new era; civilized behavior, and friendliness in the fields of commerce, services, and tourism. Youth Union branches at all levels should strengthen the organization of specific activities and projects; build large-scale, long-term activities, making this truly a major and effective movement of the Youth Union,” – Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union and President of the Vietnam Youth Union of An Giang province, Do Minh Sang, conveyed.
