The Vung Tau Revolutionary Tradition House (No. 1, Ba Cu Street, Vung Tau Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) was formerly the headquarters of the Viet Minh Committee in Vung Tau. This is a mansion built in French architectural style on an area of 6,580 m² . In 1991, this building was recognized as a historical revolutionary site by the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Tourism.
Recently, with the Maison de Lumière – House of Light art exhibition, the interior architecture of this old French-style building has truly come alive. Nearly 100 replicas of masterpieces (1:1 scale) by world- renowned painters such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, and famous Vietnamese Indochinese painters like Mai Trung Thu, Nguyen Tuong Lan, Le Pho, and To Ngoc Van... are displayed in the grounds of this historic seaside villa, bringing a breath of fresh air to this heritage site.
Ms. Dinh My Linh (a tourist from Hanoi) said: “I came to Vung Tau for a vacation and had the opportunity to visit the exhibition. I was truly amazed by the ancient French architecture at the Vung Tau Revolutionary Tradition House. Although it is hundreds of years old, the building is still very sturdy and exudes a classic beauty.”
Nearby, the Bach Dinh historical site (Vung Tau ward, Ho Chi Minh City), which was previously only open during the day for visitors, has recently been illuminated by a light show organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports in collaboration with the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Museum and Library. Instead of the usual desolate atmosphere at night, visitors can now sit on the porch of this ancient building every evening to watch ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dress) fashion shows, listen to music, and admire the 3D Mapping light show illuminating the moss-covered, ancient walls and wooden doors, which bear the rich colors of history and time.
“Light and music have awakened this ancient space, allowing heritage to coexist with the present, making Bach Dinh an attractive tourist destination in the coastal area of Ho Chi Minh City. Going forward, the department plans to strengthen connections between tourism tours and this location,” said Do Phuoc Trung, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports.
Besides the Vung Tau Revolutionary Tradition House and the Bach Dinh historical site, a series of other historical sites in the eastern part of Ho Chi Minh City, such as the ancient artillery emplacement on the top of Mount Lon; the Long Son House; the Thang Tam communal house in Vung Tau; the prison and public house in Con Dao… have further enhanced their value through cultural and tourism products, thereby bringing heritage closer to tourists.
Shift from sightseeing to experiencing.
According to statistics, the eastern area of Ho Chi Minh City has 48 classified historical and cultural relics. These include 2 special national relics (Con Dao Prison and the Ho Chi Minh Trail), 28 national relics, and 19 provincial/city-level relics.
Recently, historical sites have been integrated into general tourism tours and routes of Ho Chi Minh City and the surrounding areas. As a result, historical and cultural sites in the eastern region will be effectively utilized for traditional education and tourism development.
Ms. Tran Thi Bich Van, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Vung Tau Ward (Ho Chi Minh City), said that through art exhibitions at historical sites, people and tourists not only get to access art in a more accessible way, but these events are also a new step in diversifying tourism products, contributing to enhancing the value of experiences, attracting tourists, and aiming for sustainable and harmonious development between economy and culture.
From the perspective of the management agency, Ms. Tran Thi Thu Hien, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports, said that the development of heritage tours shows a new approach in exploiting cultural resources. “In the future, the department will strengthen the promotion of the value of historical sites in conjunction with various types of tourism to create attractive tours and routes, attracting tourists to these sites. Historical sites are not just tourist attractions but a seamless and clearly defined experiential product for participants,” Ms. Hien emphasized.
