Unfavorable weather conditions - unusually heavy and prolonged rains causing landslides in some places, making it difficult for many coffee farmers to access coffee production areas - have negatively affected the progress of coffee harvesting in the 2025-2026 crop year, and delayed the progress of purchasing coffee beans from coffee dealers. Heavy rains also caused many ripe coffee berries to fall, forcing coffee farmers to spend a lot of time picking up fallen coffee berries, leading to increased labor costs. "My family has about 2 hectares of coffee that are ready to be harvested, but they still cannot be harvested because it has been raining continuously for the past few days," said Nguyen Thi Hao, in Bao Lam 1 commune. According to Hao, the continuous heavy rains in recent times are not normal. Like every year, at this time, the rainy season in the Central Highlands has ended, the weather has started to be sunny, creating favorable conditions for farmers to harvest coffee and serve the market.
Unfavorable weather also affects coffee drying. Harvested coffee has no sun to dry, so it has to be piled up indoors, causing the coffee beans to turn black, affecting the quality of the coffee beans, and the price is also affected. In addition to the unfavorable weather due to heavy rain, the shortage of coffee picking workers is also an obstacle in the 2025 - 2026 coffee crop. Mr. Le Duy Tung, in Di Linh commune, confided: "This year, my family has to take advantage of sunny days, make use of family labor, and pick the coffee ourselves because we cannot find seasonal workers. Because seasonal workers in the Central and Northern regions are focusing on overcoming the consequences of floods." Many coffee farmers in the province said that the price of dry coffee beans on the market is still maintained at a high level - about 114 million VND/ton. Meanwhile, the price of fresh coffee in the 2025-2026 crop year fluctuates from 25,000 to 27,000 VND/kg. This crop year, coffee productivity is expected to increase due to high and stable prices over a long period of time, so coffee farmers have invested in careful care from the beginning. According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the total coffee growing area in the province is about 327,629 hectares. Mr. K'Tơn, a hired coffee picker in Hòa Ninh commune, shared: “For coffee plantations with many fruits, the owner pays the picker 1,300 - 1,500 - 1,700 VND/kg of fresh coffee fruit. For coffee plantations with few fruits, the owner pays the picker 2,000 VND/kg of fresh coffee fruit. If picking by hand, the owner will pay the picker 400,000 - 450,000 VND/day. However, in Hòa Ninh commune, many people choose to pick by contract because it is more profitable. For those who pick quickly, a couple can earn 1,800,000 - 2,000,000 VND in one day, which is normal.”
Some coffee purchasing agents said that the unfavorable weather also indirectly affected the unit's plan to purchase coffee beans. Coffee growers hope that the coming days will be sunny again so that they can quickly harvest the ripe coffee areas. The sunny weather also creates favorable conditions for drying coffee beans, ensuring good quality coffee beans, meeting commercial requirements.
