Haunted by the fear of becoming an orphan.

Their mother was seriously ill, and with no one to turn to, two brothers, Nguyen Gia Huy and Nguyen Hai Dang (students at Hai Hoa Primary and Secondary School, Hai Lang district), traveled through the night to their teacher's house hoping for help. These two young boys were constantly worried about becoming orphans.

Listening to the teacher recount the story of her two children, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thao (born in 1991), residing in Hoi Dien village, Hai Phong commune, couldn't hold back her tears. As a mother, she blamed herself for causing her children anxiety and hardship from an early age. Previously, after her family's happiness crumbled, Ms. Thao always told herself she had to do everything she could to make up for it. After much thought, she decided to return home to her parents.

Realizing she couldn't rely on farming to provide for her children, Ms. Thao struggled in every way possible. For a time, she had to work as a factory worker in the South. Later, circumstances forced Ms. Thao to make a major life decision: she persuaded her parents to borrow money so she could go to Japan to work. Abroad, she worked tirelessly, determined to repay some of her family's debts and send money back to support her children's education. In her difficult circumstances, when her father suddenly passed away, she couldn't return home to even light a candle for him.

After about five months in Japan, Ms. Thao's health deteriorated significantly. Seeing that she was no longer able to meet the job requirements, the company management allowed her to return home for examination and treatment. Initially, doctors concluded she only had a goiter and prescribed medication. However, after a month of treatment, her condition did not improve; in fact, it worsened.

Ms. Thao frequently experienced shortness of breath, dizziness, and fatigue. Upon admission to Hue Central Hospital, doctors diagnosed her with a lung tumor and several other illnesses. The lung tumor required immediate treatment. Tragically, despite surgery, the malignant tumor continued to grow. As a result, she had to undergo a painful and expensive course of radiation therapy.

Since learning of her serious illness, Thao has been almost completely devastated. She doesn't know what the future holds for her family. The amount of money she borrowed to work abroad is quite large, and she hasn't been able to repay much of it yet.

Meanwhile, travel expenses, medication, and medical treatment costs are piling up. If she didn't think about her elderly mother and two young children, Thao probably wouldn't have the will to live anymore.

“Now, my family is truly at a dead end. Every time I think of my child’s plea for help, I calm down and tell myself not to give up. I hope kindhearted people will support me and help me recover so I can return to my elderly mother and young child,” Thao said, sobbing.
