On March 20th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , in coordination with the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, organized a meeting of Vietnamese and Chinese students from different periods.

Speaking at the meeting, General Secretary To Lam expressed his emotion upon hearing the veteran figures, friendly Chinese intellectuals, and students from both countries share and reminisce about profound memories and fond feelings from their time studying and working in China and Vietnam; he also expressed his confidence and hope for a bright future for the development of relations between the two Parties, the two countries, and the two peoples.

The General Secretary emphasized: Vietnam and China are two neighboring countries "sharing a common border," with a long-standing tradition of friendship, subtly and profoundly summarized by both nations as "Long-standing neighbors become like family," "Good neighbors are a treasure," and "Neighbors help each other in times of need." Looking back at the historical revolutionary ties between the two countries, we remember, are grateful for, are immensely proud of, and always cherish the great contributions of the generations of leaders of the two Parties and two countries, directly President Ho Chi Minh and Chairman Mao Zedong, who laid the foundation for the "close relationship between Vietnam and China, both comrades and brothers," which has been diligently nurtured by generations of leaders of the two Parties and two countries.

The General Secretary reiterated: Seventy-five years ago, on January 18, 1950, the People's Republic of China was the first country in the world to establish diplomatic relations with the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam). Vietnam was the first Southeast Asian country to establish diplomatic relations with China. This momentous event opened a new era for friendly relations between the two socialist neighbors. Throughout their glorious revolutionary journey, the two Parties, the two countries, and the people of both countries have always given each other immense, effective, sincere, and loyal assistance and support.

China has welcomed many Vietnamese officials, students, and scholars for study and research, providing them with the best possible learning and living conditions, notably through Vietnamese schools in Nanning and Guilin (Guangxi). It is from this favorable environment that many generations of Vietnamese intellectuals have grown, with many becoming high-ranking leaders of the Party and State, leading experts in various fields, military and police generals, and renowned artists, making significant contributions to the Vietnamese revolution and the friendship between the two countries.

According to the General Secretary, over the past 75 years, the world and regional situation has undergone profound changes, but one common understanding remains unchanged: the stable, sustainable, and long-term development of relations between the two Parties and two countries is the earnest aspiration and fundamental interest of both nations, of crucial importance to the revolutionary cause and development in each country, and in line with the great trend of the times: peace, cooperation for prosperous development.

“Over the years, Vietnam-China relations have made remarkable progress, as evidenced by the agreement between the top leaders of the two Parties and two countries to elevate bilateral relations and maintain regular strategic exchanges to guide bilateral cooperation. The two countries have implemented dozens of diverse exchange and cooperation mechanisms at all levels and in all sectors. Defense and security cooperation has truly played a crucial role. Bilateral trade turnover has grown dramatically, with China leading in the number of new investment projects in Vietnam. People-to-people exchanges, cooperation between localities, culture, education, and tourism are increasingly vibrant and are a bright spot in the relationship,” the General Secretary emphasized.

The General Secretary also affirmed: The younger generation has always received special attention and expectations from the leaders of the two Parties and two countries, who believe they are a force with aspirations to follow in the footsteps of their forefathers, inherit the tradition of friendship, and bring vibrant energy and a bright future to Vietnam-China relations. In his letter to the youth and children of the whole country, beloved President Ho Chi Minh once wrote: "A year begins in spring, a life begins in youth, youth is the spring of society." The Chinese comrades have a very insightful saying: "The relationship between nations is based on the closeness of the people, and the closeness of the people lies in their hearts beating in unison." In reality, the affection between the people of the two countries is sparked and sustained by the younger generation.

Currently, the number of Vietnamese students in China has reached a record high of nearly 24,000 (double the number from five years ago), and more than 2,000 Chinese students are studying in Vietnam. In addition, many youth exchange activities are regularly organized, such as the Vietnam-China Youth Friendship Meeting, youth cooperation forums, and student summer camps.

The General Secretary emphasized that the world is entering a new phase with epochal changes. Peace, cooperation, and development remain the aspirations of all countries, but conflicts and traditional and non-traditional security challenges are becoming increasingly complex. In this context, the General Secretary stated that we are pleased to witness the positive and comprehensive development of cooperation between the two countries. For Vietnam, this is a particularly important starting point for entering a new era of national development, for peace, independence, democracy, prosperity, civilization, happiness, and a steady advance towards socialism. Under the leadership of General Secretary and President Xi Jinping, China is entering a new era, achieving many great accomplishments, laying a solid foundation for the comprehensive construction of a modern socialist power, and striving to achieve its second centenary goals. Therefore, continuously deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership and promoting the building of a strategically significant Vietnam-China community with a shared future is of paramount importance for the development of each country and for peace, cooperation, and development in the region and the world. This is a glorious responsibility that requires determination and goodwill from both sides. In this, the younger generation plays a core role.

Sharing some thoughts, the General Secretary stated that the younger generation of both countries needs to deepen their understanding of the rich history, important significance, and strategic importance of the relationship between the two Parties and the two countries. The youth of both countries should strive to study, train, and continuously strive to master science and technology in order to make practical and creative contributions to the industrialization and modernization process, develop new productive forces in each country, and contribute to consolidating the material foundation of the bilateral relationship.

Furthermore, the agencies and organizations of both countries continue to adhere to the high-level common understanding on strengthening and innovating the work of disseminating information and educating the younger generation about the traditional friendship between the two Parties and countries, and the development achievements of each country, thereby enhancing the pride and confidence of the youth. Educational and training institutions of both countries will jointly promote the effective implementation of signed agreements, expanding and deepening the forms of exchange and cooperation in culture, education, training, and research. "I wish the relationship between the two Parties and countries will continue to develop steadily, strongly, and increasingly deeply," the General Secretary stated.
