According to Mr. Do Van Hung, a teacher at Khanh Yen Thuong Secondary School who directly supports students in raising silkworms and maintaining the club, in order for the club to be formed and operate, from the beginning of the school year, he planned, researched, and learned from many places to decide on the silkworm farming model, allowing students to learn, research, and practice right at the school.

In addition to the silkworm farming area, the school also utilizes the rooftop as a breeding ground for pigeons and quail, housing approximately 400 pairs of birds. Every day, students from all grade levels take turns cleaning, caring for, and studying the growth and development of these two species. The entire process, from egg incubation and hatching to the chicks' growth and maturity, is carefully monitored and documented by the students. The school also has a poultry farming area and two fish ponds covering approximately 2,000 square meters, allowing students to practice skills related to aquaculture right on campus.
After four years of implementing the model, Khanh Yen Thuong Secondary School now boasts a new, spacious, and clean appearance. The entire schoolyard, approximately 2,000 square meters, is lined with neatly arranged potted plants, interspersed with eye-catching seasonal flowerbeds… Remarkably, these are all creations of the teachers and students themselves.
Moreover, the teachers and students here have become real "farmers" by creating a lush green vegetable garden right on the school grounds. Each grade level is assigned to a specific area for growing vegetables in the school garden. Every day, after school, the students are guided by their teachers in planting and caring for seasonal vegetables. This is also the source of food used for the daily meals of the school's 33 boarding students. Thanks to this, students not only have access to safe food but also apply the theories of their subjects to real life, thereby improving their essential skills. "Every day at school, I get to go to the garden with my teacher and friends to plant vegetables, water them, weed, and then harvest them to cook. We also teach each other how to take care of the vegetables properly. I feel like I've learned so much more from studying at this school," shared Vang Thi Nhu, a student in class 7A.
Notably, Khanh Yen Thuong Secondary School is the first and only school in Van Ban district to date to have built a standard swimming pool. Thanks to socialized funding, the swimming pool, covering over 70 square meters, was completed and put into use at the beginning of 2018. Sharing his joy at participating in swimming lessons right at school, Ha Tuan Minh, a student in class 9B, said: “Before the school had a swimming pool, I didn't know how to swim. But since the school has a swimming pool, the teachers have guided me on how to swim, so I've learned freestyle and am now learning breaststroke.”
Khanh Yen Thuong Secondary School has over 200 students in 8 classes, the majority of whom are children from ethnic minority groups. Many students come from disadvantaged families, living up to 15 kilometers from the school, so the school has built a boarding facility for them to provide the best possible conditions for them to focus on their studies. Every year, the school also mobilizes social resources from businesses located in the area to contribute to the construction of facilities, learning equipment, and the effective implementation of the school model that connects with practical realities.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Luong, the school's vice principal: The school chose the farm and ecological school model because it was deemed suitable for the local conditions and the students. Furthermore, the implementation received the support and approval of students and parents, so the school's management decided to expand the program to include more content and establish clubs based on students' interests, allowing them to participate in areas they enjoy, thereby maximizing the effectiveness of the model.
"Every day at school is a joyful day" is not just a slogan, but a reality reflected on the faces and in the minds of students at Khanh Yen Thuong Secondary School. At school, they not only acquire knowledge but also experience many exciting activities at the farm and ecological school; helping them to improve themselves, develop life skills, and confidently achieve success in the future.
