"Red Cross" Shelter
In mid-November 2025, after more than two months of renovations, the house of Ms. Ho Thi Thu Mai (Group 43, Hoa Khanh Ward) was completed, bringing happiness to her family.
Mrs. Mai's family is classified as near-poor and faces particularly difficult circumstances. Her husband passed away early, and Mrs. Mai lives with her son's family, but their finances are quite precarious. Every day, she collects scrap metal, while her son mostly stays home to care for his two young children who suffer from ADHD. All household expenses depend on her daughter-in-law's meager factory worker salary.
Understanding Mrs. Mai's family circumstances, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hoa Khanh Ward conducted a survey and requested support from the City Red Cross Society.
After investigating, the city's Red Cross Society mobilized its member Tran Dinh Nam to donate 30 million VND to renovate the house for Mrs. Mai's family.
“Thanks to financial support from benefactors and encouragement from the local community, my family has renovated our house to be higher and more stable, freeing us from the worry of flooding every time it rains. With a new, sturdy house, my children and I can live and work with peace of mind, stabilizing our lives to take care of our grandchildren,” Mrs. Mai shared emotionally.

The joy of having a stable home also came to the family of Ms. Phan Thi Lieu (Quang Chau Hamlet, Hoa Xuan Ward). Ms. Lieu was classified as a poor household, with a dilapidated house that posed a potential safety risk during the rainy and stormy season.
After conducting a site survey, the City Red Cross, in coordination with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hoa Xuan Ward, mobilized Agribank Nam Da Nang to donate 60 million VND to build a new house. After more than three months of construction, the sturdy single-story house was handed over to the family just before the rainy season.
"Thanks to the support from the city's Red Cross, local authorities, and businesses, I now have the house I have. This is a huge source of motivation for my family to overcome difficulties and improve our lives," Mrs. Lieu confided.
According to Nguyen Tien Lam, Vice Chairman of the City Red Cross Society, from now until the end of the year, they will mobilize sponsors to support the repair and construction of three more "Red Cross" shelters for disadvantaged individuals.
At the same time, the organization distributed aid funded by the Vietnam Red Cross Society to households affected by natural disasters.
Specifically, support was provided to 10 families whose houses were destroyed or swept away, at a rate of 10 million VND per household; and 20 families whose houses were damaged or had their roofs blown off, at a rate of 5 million VND per household, to help them overcome the damage and stabilize their lives.

Focus on housing policies.
Continuing the "Housing for All" program, on November 12th, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Thanh Khe Ward held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a solidarity house for Ms. Doan Thi No (Group 12TC, Thanh Khe Ward).
Mrs. Nở's family consists of seven people; her son recently passed away from cancer, her daughter-in-law works as a manual laborer far from home, Mrs. Nở and her husband are elderly and unable to work, and there are three young grandchildren who are of school age.
The old house, measuring only 20 square meters, was in serious disrepair, failing to meet living and safety standards.
To help the family settle down and provide stable housing for the children, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Thanh Khe Ward mobilized Agribank Tan Chinh Nam - Da Nang to provide 60 million VND for construction; the remaining amount was contributed by the family, relatives, and the community.
Thanks to the concerted efforts of the government, businesses, and families, the house was started with joy and excitement. A representative from the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Thanh Khe ward stated that the project is expected to be completed and handed over in mid-December 2025, before the New Year, helping the family settle down and stabilize their lives.
According to a representative of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city, after completing the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, the Fatherland Front at all levels will continue to mobilize resources to support the construction and repair of houses for the people.
In October and November 2025 alone, the Fatherland Front at all levels supported the repair of 189 houses and the construction of 58 new houses, with a total budget of 8.74 billion VND.
In order to continue implementing the housing policy effectively in the city, especially in areas affected by natural disasters, in the dispatch on proactively responding to and warning of heavy rain, flash floods, and landslides dated November 15, the City People's Committee requested localities to pay attention to and ensure housing for the people.
In particular, for houses with damaged roofs or partial damage, local authorities are coordinating with the armed forces to urgently assist people in repairing their homes.
For houses severely damaged by natural disasters that cannot be restored; and for poor and near-poor households and families entitled to preferential policies whose houses are damaged or have their roofs blown off, local authorities will compile a list to advise the City People's Committee on support policies.
Simultaneously, mobilize additional resources from businesses and philanthropists; deploy forces to support people in rebuilding their homes, completing the task before January 31, 2026.
In particular, localities need to review areas at high risk of landslides and flash floods to advise the City People's Committee on arranging stable housing and resettlement to ensure safety and sustainable livelihoods for the people.
