Red Cross Shelter

In mid-November 2025, after more than two months of repairs, the house of Ms. Ho Thi Thu Mai (group 43, Hoa Khanh ward) was completed in the happiness of her family.

Mrs. Mai’s family is near-poor and in extremely difficult circumstances. Her husband died early, and Mrs. Mai lives with her son’s family but their finances are quite difficult. Every day, she collects scrap metal, while her son stays home to take care of two children with hyperactivity. All family expenses depend on her daughter-in-law’s meager salary as a worker.

Understanding Mrs. Mai's family situation, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hoa Khanh ward surveyed and asked the city Red Cross Society for support.

After investigating, the city's Red Cross mobilized member Tran Dinh Nam to support 30 million VND to renovate the house for Ms. Mai's family.

“Thanks to financial support from benefactors and encouragement from the local community, my family has renovated our house to be taller, free from the worry of flooding every time it rains. With a new, solid house, my children and I can live, work, and stabilize our lives to take care of our grandchildren,” Ms. Mai emotionally shared.

The joy of settling down also came to the family of Mrs. Phan Thi Lieu (Quang Chau group, Hoa Xuan ward). Mrs. Lieu is a poor household, with a dilapidated house, potentially unsafe during the rainy and stormy season.

After a field survey, the City Red Cross Association coordinated with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hoa Xuan Ward to mobilize Agribank Nam Da Nang to sponsor 60 million VND to build a new house. After more than three months of construction, the solid level 4 house was handed over to her family before the rainy season.

“Thanks to the support of the Red Cross Society of the city, local authorities and businesses, I have the house I have today. This is a great source of motivation for my family to overcome difficulties and improve in life,” Ms. Lieu confided.

Vice President of the City Red Cross Society Nguyen Tien Lam said that from now until the end of the year, he will mobilize sponsors to support the repair and construction of three more "Red Cross" shelters for the disadvantaged.

At the same time, the organization provided support sponsored by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society to households affected by natural disasters.

Of which, 10 households whose houses collapsed or were swept away received support of 10 million VND/household; 20 households whose houses were damaged or had their roofs blown off received support of 5 million VND/household to help them overcome the damage and stabilize their lives.

Focus on settlement policy

Continuing to implement the program "Having a house", on November 12, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Thanh Khe ward organized the groundbreaking ceremony to build a solidarity house for Ms. Doan Thi No's household (group 12TC, Thanh Khe ward).

Mrs. No's family has 7 members; her son recently passed away from cancer, her daughter-in-law works as a manual laborer far from home, Mrs. No and her husband are old and unable to work, and three children are of school age.

The old house is only 20 square meters but is seriously degraded, not ensuring living conditions and safety.

To help her family settle down and her children have a stable place to live, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Thanh Khe Ward mobilized Agribank Tan Chinh Nam - Da Nang to support 60 million VND for construction; the rest was contributed by family, relatives and the community.

Thanks to the joint efforts and consensus of the government, businesses and families, the house was started in joy and excitement. A representative of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Thanh Khe Ward said that the project is expected to be completed and handed over in mid-December 2025, before the New Year, helping families feel secure in settling down and stabilizing their lives.

A representative of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city said that after completing the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, the Front at all levels will continue to mobilize resources to support the construction and repair of new houses for people.

In October and November 2025 alone, the Fatherland Front at all levels supported the repair of 189 houses and the construction of 58 new houses, with a total cost of 8.74 billion VND.

In order to continue to effectively implement the settlement policy in the city, especially in localities affected by natural disasters, in the Official Dispatch on proactive response and warning of heavy rain, flash floods, and landslides dated November 15, the City People's Committee requested localities to pay attention to and ensure housing for people.

In particular, for houses with blown-off roofs or partial damage, localities coordinate with armed forces to urgently support people to repair their houses.

For houses severely damaged by natural disasters that cannot be restored; poor households, near-poor households, and policy families whose houses are damaged or have their roofs blown off, localities will make a list to advise the City People's Committee on support policies.

At the same time, mobilize more resources from businesses and philanthropists; arrange forces to support people in rebuilding houses, to be completed before January 31, 2026.

In particular, localities need to review areas at high risk of landslides and flash floods to advise the City People's Committee on arranging stable population and resettlement to ensure safety and sustainable livelihoods for people.
