Báo Quân đội Nhân dânBáo Quân đội Nhân dân22/04/2023

Registration for the preliminary selection is open until May 20th.

According to information from the Recruitment and Selection Board of the Ministry of National Defense , preliminary selection is currently underway (from March 25th to May 20th), including the submission of preliminary selection applications. Therefore, from now until May 20th, candidates who have not yet registered for preliminary selection but wish to do so can still go to the recruitment and selection board at the district level (for students and demobilized youth), or the recruitment and selection board at the regiment level or equivalent (for active-duty youth) to register and undergo preliminary selection as prescribed.

Colonel Nguyen Van Thai, Head of the Secretariat of the Military Recruitment and Selection Board of the Ministry of National Defense, emphasized: Candidates wishing to apply for admission to military schools must pass the preliminary selection process and meet the standards stipulated by the Ministry of National Defense. Therefore, to proactively participate in the preliminary selection, students who wish to apply to military schools should quickly go to the Military Recruitment and Selection Board to find out information and register for the preliminary selection.

Each candidate wishing to participate in the preliminary selection process must submit a complete application dossier. The dossier, issued by the Recruitment and Selection Board of the Ministry of National Defense, includes: 3 preliminary selection registration forms; 1 background check and verification form; and 1 health examination form. Candidates must fill out the preliminary selection registration forms themselves, with confirmation from the district-level or regimental-level recruitment and selection board. The remaining two forms will be verified and examined by the recruitment and selection board.

Candidates who are young people outside the military register for preliminary selection and purchase application forms at the district-level recruitment and selection committee. Candidates who are active military personnel purchase application forms and register for preliminary selection at their regiment-level unit or equivalent. Candidates must fill out the application forms and documents themselves and personally submit their application and participate in the preliminary selection process within the specified time frame.

Some notes on the standards in the preliminary selection.

Candidates applying for admission to military schools must meet the following four criteria: political background; education; health; and age.

According to the Admissions Committee of the Ministry of National Defense, regarding political background, candidates must voluntarily register for military schools; possess good moral character; be a member of the Communist Party of Vietnam or a member of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union ; and have a clear and complete political background for their family and themselves, meeting the criteria for admission to the Communist Party of Vietnam (for candidates who are not yet Party members). Candidates who are currently military personnel must have been evaluated by their unit as having successfully completed their duties during their service.

The age of candidates as of 2023 (the year of application) is regulated according to two groups: young people outside the military and active military personnel. For young people outside the military, the age is from 17 to 21 years old (born between 2002 and 2006). For active military personnel, retired military personnel, and citizens who have completed their service in the People's Public Security, the age for consideration is from 18 to 23 years old (born between 2000 and 2005). Note that age is calculated based on the year of birth, not the month of birth.

Regarding educational qualifications, candidates applying to military schools must have graduated from high school through formal or continuing education programs by the time of the selection process, within the timeframe stipulated by the Ministry of Education and Training.

Regarding health requirements, candidates must meet eight general criteria (female candidates have an additional gynecological criterion): Physical fitness; eyes; ears, nose, and throat; teeth, jaw, and face; internal medicine; neuropsychiatry; surgery; and dermatology. For officer training schools in command, political, and logistics fields, only male candidates are accepted; candidates must be at least 1.65m tall and weigh at least 50kg; candidates with myopia (nearsightedness) are not accepted.

Specifically, the group of specialized technical officer training schools (including the Military Engineering Academy; the Military Science Academy and the aeronautical engineering training program of the Air Defense-Air Force Academy) recruits male candidates with a height of 1.63m or taller and a weight of 50kg or more; female candidates with a height of 1.54m or taller and a weight of 48kg or more. Regarding eyesight, candidates may have myopia of no more than 3 diopters; visual acuity after correction must achieve a score of 1 (visual acuity in the right eye must be 10/10; total visual acuity of both eyes must be 19/10 or higher).

Specifically for 2023, the health criteria for military recruitment will be adjusted for certain groups. Firstly, for candidates with permanent residence for three years or more in Zone 1, islands, and ethnic minority candidates applying to military schools, male candidates must be at least 1.60m tall and weigh at least 48kg; female candidates must be at least 1.52m tall and weigh at least 46kg (previously, male candidates had to be at least 1.62m tall and weigh at least 50kg). Secondly, for candidates belonging to 16 very small ethnic minority groups, the height must be at least 1.58m tall and weigh at least 46kg; female candidates must be at least 1.52m tall and weigh at least 44kg (previously, male candidates had to be at least 1.60m tall and weigh at least 47kg).
