Thien Tan: To ensure that stones are no longer polluted.

- Thien Tan commune has many quarries that are licensed to operate and produce construction materials. Besides the economic benefits, this sector also poses many risks of environmental pollution. In recent times, the local government and relevant agencies have strengthened management efforts to minimize environmental pollution at these quarries.

The quarrying company regularly waters the mining area to minimize dust pollution during the movement of stone-carrying trucks into the quarry.

The Hai Cung quarry in Dia Phan village, Thien Tan commune, was licensed to extract stone for construction materials in 2005, with an extraction capacity of approximately 100,000 cubic meters of stone per year. To minimize negative impacts on the environment, the licensed quarrying unit has strictly implemented regulations in stone extraction, including spraying water on transportation routes from the quarry area to reduce dust.

Ms. Hoang Thi Thu Linh, Chief Accountant of Hai Cung Co., Ltd., said: "To minimize environmental pollution in stone mining, we regularly water the mine area four times a day; at conveyor belts and crushers, we proactively install misting and water spraying equipment to reduce dust; and we increase tree planting around the mine area to reduce dust dispersion..."

Not only at the Hai Cung quarry, but currently in Thien Tan commune, there are 7 quarries with mining rights (making it the commune with the most quarries in the province). Facing the potential environmental impacts of mining activities, the People's Committee of Thien Tan commune has issued directives to relevant departments and agencies to effectively carry out propaganda and guidance for businesses and units mining stone to sign commitments, especially to comply with environmental protection regulations. Simultaneously, an inter-agency inspection team has been established to proactively inspect and handle violations in stone mining activities.

Mr. Vu Huy Tung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thien Tan commune, said: "We have coordinated with relevant agencies and departments to inspect the stone mining activities of enterprises, thereby promptly detecting and correcting enterprises that have not strictly implemented environmental protection measures. Specifically, the commune has directed specialized departments to issue documents requiring mine owners and mining enterprises to proactively install and operate mining equipment in accordance with regulations; to educate workers directly involved in stone mining to apply techniques to minimize smoke and dust pollution during production... and to require 100% of mine owners and mining enterprises to sign commitments on environmental protection and not causing pollution at the production site as well as in residential areas."

On July 31, 2025, the People's Committee of Thien Tan commune issued a plan for a comprehensive review, investigation, resolution, and handling of violations by environmentally polluting establishments in the area. Accordingly, the commune organized an inter-agency team to review all units and organizations engaged in production and business activities that pose a risk to the environment, such as livestock farming, timber processing, and especially stone quarries. During the inspection, the team discovered one mining unit that did not comply with environmental protection regulations and imposed an administrative fine, while also requiring the unit to commit to complying with environmental protection regulations.

Mr. Nong Van Thang, from Loi village, Thien Tan commune, said: "My family lives near the stone quarry, about 800 meters away. I hope that the authorities will increase supervision, and that the quarry owner will regularly water the roads where the stone trucks pass to reduce dust and avoid affecting the people."

Although the government and relevant agencies have implemented numerous solutions to protect the environment, the current situation regarding stone quarrying activities in the commune still presents some shortcomings that negatively impact the environment. Therefore, in the coming period, the People's Committee of Thien Tan commune will continue to direct relevant agencies to strengthen environmental management and protection in accordance with the law. At the same time, each production and business establishment needs to further enhance its responsibility, linking quarrying with environmental protection for sustainable business development.
