The identification of sand sources for the construction of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway is still not meeting requirements, affecting the project's progress.
The Ministry of Transport has recently issued a document responding to voters in An Giang province regarding the progress of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway project.

According to the Ministry of Transport, based on the policy approved by the National Assembly, the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway is divided into four component projects and assigned to the People's Committees of An Giang, Can Tho, Hau Giang, and Soc Trang provinces and cities as the managing agencies for implementation.
As the specialized management ministry, the Ministry of Transport has recently coordinated closely with localities, organized inspections, urged investors and contractors to accelerate progress, and proposed solutions to overcome difficulties arising during the project implementation.
With the decisive direction of the Prime Minister, the close coordination of ministries and agencies, and the efforts of localities, investors, and contractors, the project has achieved certain results to date.
Of that, land clearance and resettlement work has reached 99%, and construction volume has reached approximately 30%...
However, according to the Ministry of Transport, the progress of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway project is behind schedule due to a shortage of sand for road embankment.
Currently, the relevant units have identified sources for approximately 23 million cubic meters out of the project's total demand of about 29 million cubic meters.
"To meet the required deadlines, localities are accelerating procedures for granting mining licenses and reviewing and supplementing the 부족한 sand sources, while also considering the option of using sea sand within Soc Trang province to build road embankments."
"The Ministry of Transport will continue to closely coordinate with localities to focus on resolving difficulties and obstacles regarding construction material sources, and urge investors and contractors to develop construction plans to compensate for the delayed work items of the project," the Ministry of Transport affirmed.
The Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway project has a total length of over 188km, with a phased investment scale of 4 lanes, and a preliminary total investment of 44,691 billion VND.
The project is divided into four independently operating component projects. Of these, component project 1 (57km long) is managed by An Giang province.
Component project 2 (over 37km long) is managed by Can Tho City.
Component project 3 (nearly 37km long) is managed by Hau Giang province.
Component Project 4 (over 58km long) is managed by Soc Trang province.
According to the plan, the project will be substantially completed in 2026 and fully operational in 2027.
