Besides his excellent long-range interception and ball recovery skills, the 26-year-old midfielder from Hai Duong has also created several spectacular long-range goals.
This season, Duc Chien has played in 22 matches, scoring 2 goals and providing 1 assist. A highlight of his playing style is his effective ball-winning ability and his contributions to defensive support from afar. This is also a position that has been lacking in the Vietnamese national team, as midfielder Doan Ngoc Tan suffered an injury and has been sidelined for a long time.
In the list of 23 Vietnamese players called up to prepare for the match against Malaysia on June 10th, coach Kim Sang-sik summoned Duc Chien and Vo Hoang Minh Khoa to replace Doan Ngoc Tan. Considering their current strength and form, experts believe Duc Chien is highly likely to be in the starting lineup for Vietnam when they travel to Bukit Jalil Stadium. Compared to Minh Khoa and his teammates who play in the same position, the Viettel player is highly regarded for his composure, experience, and consistency in matches.

Towards the end of the 2024-2025 season, Nguyen Duc Chien became the focus of attention in the V-League transfer market. Phu Dong Ninh Binh FC officially gained promotion to the V-League, and to prepare for the upcoming season, the team is targeting many Vietnamese national team stars, including Duc Chien.
Although he hasn't confirmed whether he will move to another team next season, the midfielder born in 1998 has left open the possibility of renewing his contract with The Cong Viettel. The two sides haven't agreed on a signing bonus for the next three years because Duc Chien wants to receive an amount that reflects his true value.
Ninh Binh FC is interested in acquiring Duc Chien and is willing to pay a fee of up to 7 billion VND per season. If he plays for Ninh Binh for three seasons, Duc Chien will receive approximately 21 billion VND, equivalent to what Pham Tuan Hai received from Hanoi FC. Previously, Phu Dong Ninh Binh shocked the First Division by paying 30 billion VND to secure the services of Nguyen Hoang Duc for three seasons.
According to the plan, coach Kim and his team will travel to Malaysia from June 6th. The entire team will have three days to prepare in Malaysia before their second match in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
